Glenn's truck came to a complete stop causing Daryl to turn off his bike, wait for Beth to get off and kick the kickstand out, to hold the bike in place. Daryl got off his bike and walked up to Glenn; taking in his surroundings.
"Looks like an easy stop. Might only take a few hours if I do say so myself." Daryl muttered, turning around to look at Beth. "You know what you need?" He asked softly. The girl nodded; earning a deep 'okay' from the man in front of her. They both looked at Glenn who turned to face them.
"I'll meet you back here at sunset, make sure Beth comes back unharmed or Hershel AND Maggie will have your ass." Glenn said with a slight knit of the eyebrows.
Daryl scoffed and pushed ahead of Glenn, Beth following behind. He took a slow pace at first; guiding the way for the small 17 year old.
"You think we can get Judith's stuff first?" Beth asked quietly; looking around; gun in hand. Daryl shrugged, with is rarely audible 'I dunno.'
"Don't 'I dunno,' me. Answer me." Beth demanded stopping in the middle of the rode in front of a liquor store. Daryl turned around and lowered his crossbow, squinting his eyes.
"The hell are you doin' farm girl?" He asked harshly.
"I'm doin' what I need'a do you redneck."
"If you wanna do it then go do it ya' damn self. You said you could manage; go on ahead." Daryl remarked; turning away, a scowl on his face.
Beth groaned and turned; looking for any store that could have possibly sold anything a baby needed. She found herself walking inside of an abandoned Target. The only light that was there was the dim light shining through the windows. The moaning of the walkers got louder as she moved through aisle after aisle. So far she found formula and some more bottles; more clothes and a few toys.
Once she thought she had everything; she was about to exit the store, but the moaning of a walker was right in her ear. Beth turned quickly; letting out a loud scream. The large walker pushed her to the ground and right before it was about to bite her, a arrow shot right through it's head spilling rotten walker blood all over Beth's face. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried thinking that this was all a dream.
"Get up." A familiar voice said; throwing his bow over his shoulder. Daryl reached down and grabbed all the baby supplies; throwing them in his bag.
"It's only a dream, it's only a dream, it's only a-" Beth cried to herself; shaking slightly.
"This ain't no damn dream; now get the hell up and lets get going before all these walkers come out and get you. I don't need your daddy or your sister jumpin' my ass because you're dead." Daryl grabbed the walker off of Beth and pulled her up by her arms. As soon as he did so; Beth threw her arms around the mans waist; earning a 'oomph,' from him.
Hesitantly; Daryl put his arms around Beth, closing his eyes. It has been what feels like forever since he had one of these hugs and to be honest? He missed the feeling. But once he felt the small framed girl pull away; his eyes shot open. She looked up at him; her tears still falling down her face.
"You saved my life.." Beth whispered, looking at Daryl. There was a moment of silence before Daryl sighed and turned away; hoisting his bag and crossbow farther up onto his back.
"Come on, let's go. It's almost sundown and the walkers back there are gettin' rowdy." He mumbled; starting to walk away. The girl followed after him and wiped her tears away; sighing in response.
The walk back to Glenn was silent but Daryl looked back at Beth every so often to see if she was still behind. They made eye contact at least once or twice and Beth found it comforting. Daryl had this thought lodged in his brain that maybe he couldn't have saved her, what would've happened? Would Hershel or Maggie kill him? Would he cry? Would he feel like he did when he found Merle dead? He didn't know; and he was glad he didn't have to find out.
Zoning back in; Beth and Daryl noticed Glenn's pearly white smile. Beth crossed her arms and leaned against Glenn's truck.
"Why are ya' so happy?" She asked him trying to erase the horrible memory of almost dying out of her head. Glenn reached down into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful ring with two small diamonds on the sides and a bigger one in the middle.
"I found the perfect ring for Maggie." He started, earning a groan from Daryl. "As I was saying," He muttered glaring at the redneck across the way. "I wanted to propose to her for awhile now; but I never really knew how. But now I thought of the perfect way to do it."
"Oh my gosh! That's great, Glenn. She'll love it." Beth said happily; taking the ring from Glenn and examining it.
"This ain't no god damn time for a scene of some shitty romance movie. We need'ta get going now before our asses get chewed." Daryl said harshly, getting on his bike.
"I think I'll ride with Glenn." The blonde girl suggested. Daryl nodded and kicked the kickstand back; starting his motorcycle.
"You tell everyone in that prison it was your idea ta' ride with Glenn, ya' hear?" The man spoke starting to drive off, feeling a ting of rage entering his chest.
Glenn arched his brow and watched as Daryl drove away. He sighed and looked down at the ring when Beth handed it back to him.
"She'll love it, Glenn. Don't worry about Daryl or anyone who might have a problem with it. It's the end of the world; do whatever you want and have faith while doin' it." Beth smiled up at her soon to be brother-in-law. He chuckled lightly and climbed up into the truck.
"Lets go munchkin." He mumbled, thinking about the last words she said.
'Have faith while doin' it.'
'Faith.'
