What if she was alive? What if he had never joined the Neverseen? What if she had never confronted him? What if he was never branded a Talentless?

The lake stretches before her, endless and calm, but Jolie couldn't look at it without feeling the heaviness in her chest. It's like a reflection of everything she could never reach—like she's trapped on the other side of this glass. The daisy meadows, the fields of soft petals, all so peaceful, yet so far removed from the chaos she once knew.
How could she have let it all slip away? How cruel, to snatch a life so young, to tear apart what could have been.

Jolie sighed, walking amongst the daisy meadow. That's what she's been doing mostly. She knows she died, she remembers her life up until the moment it ended. Once the fire had killed her, Jolie woke up in the middle of a daisy field, it felt straight so ethereal, like a scene from one of those human films Aunt Juline always liked to watch. Yet, she still doesn't know where she is.

She didn't know there was a life beyond the one she lived but then again she never really thought about where people went after they died. It's just been an endless meadow of daisies. Sometimes after it rains, the lake near the patch of grass allows her to see what's happening in the world she left behind. The world of the living. Jolie peers into the lake watching the scenes unfold.
A young blonde girl is hugging Grady and Edaline. A young blonde girl who looked like Jolie, except for the eyes. This girl had brown. Highly unusual.
If it wasn't for the conversations Jolie had overheard she wouldn't have guessed that this young girl was an elf. Though she was far too pretty for a human anyway. Then realisation hit her and she sucked in a breath. That was the Black Swan's moonlark. But why was she in the Lost Cities already? The timeline couldn't have been pushed forward, could it? Or maybe Jolie had lost track of how long it had been. Though Sophie was only 12 when she was brought to the Lost Cities. She arched an eyebrow in confusion.

"Sophie..." Edaline whispered, speaking something. Sophie. So that was Jolie's new sister's name. A younger sister. Jolie's lips pulled into a small smile. She'd always wanted a younger sister.
Jolie bit her lip, the happiness of having a younger sister morphing into fear. If her new sister was the Moonlark, the risk of her life being taken was incredibly high. And after watching how Grady and Edaline reacted to Jolie's death, she didn't think they were strong enough to lose another daughter.

The grief would crush them, the guilt would break them. All she could do was hope the Black Swan could keep her safe. But knowing those idiots they would never do anything useful properly or quickly.
She hated to admit it but making decisions and following them on time was not a strong suit of the Black Swan. And so, she could only hope Sophie was smart enough to keep herself out of danger.

She didn't expect her to run headfirst into danger.

Jolie sat at the side of the lake, watching Sophie make one bad decision after another and put herself into danger one time after another. It was both hilarious and concerning at the same time. At that point, Jolie was convinced nothing could keep Sophie out of danger. Sophie WAS the danger. She shook her head in amusement. Because seriously, how does a twelve-year old get into so much danger all at once? She hung onto hope, though, because if she knew anything, Sophie was a fighter. She's going to fight her way through this one.
