Hurt.
A feeling of pain and... numbness. A feeling Michael was having. He was hurt that the girl he loves, doesn't love him back. He was so hurt, he was angry. Angry at himself for not being lovable or perfect, angry at society, the world, the universe. He was angry at her.

She felt guilty. She wanted to love him back, she did. She just couldn't. She didn't want to put all the weight on him, she wanted some work and input. He offered so much, she didn't want it. She wanted to love that boy, she did. She just couldn't.

Just alike but different. She wanted to be independent, she didn't want to have to depend on a man. That's what her daddy taught her. He was never around but he was her first lesson; never depend on a man.
He wanted to feel loved, wanted, appreciated. He didn't get that. He never fell in love but when he did, he fell hard. He didn't know how to stay on one girl and keep himself there but she kept him. She didn't fall, but she kept him.
