Wednesday's pov:
A year later
A year has passed and it was now Eli's first birthday. I woke up in bed with Enid cuddling me. I hugged her. "Puppy." I said trying to get her awake. Enid stirred, her eyes opening slowly. "Hm?" she mumbled, still half-asleep. I chuckled, pressing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Eli's first birthday," I whispered, signaling the beginning of a day filled with celebrations and the continuation of our unique and loving family journey. Enid sat up slowly and rubbed her eyes. I smiled at her. "Let's get ready before he wakes up." I said helping her out of bed. Enid nodded, the remnants of sleep still evident in her eyes. Together, we prepared for the day ahead, the anticipation of Eli's birthday festivities adding an extra layer of excitement. As we moved around the room, the shared responsibilities and the warmth of our connection painted a picture of a family strengthened by time and love. Once we both finished getting ready, I started making Eli's favorite breakfast, Pancakes with syrup and strawberries. Soon Eli ran out of his room and hugged Enid and I. "Mama, it's my birthday." Eli said. Enid and I shared a glance, our hearts swelling with parental pride. "Happy birthday, Eli!" we chorused, returning his hug. The aroma of pancakes filled the air, blending with the joyous atmosphere of Eli's special day. As we sat down for breakfast, the simple pleasure of sharing this moment as a family added a layer of sweetness to the celebration. I placed Eli's plate in front of him. "Here you go, sweetheart." I said. Eli smiled and dug into the breakfast. He said some words but his mouth was too full for me to hear. I then walked over to Enid and handed her her breakfast. Enid smiled gratefully as she took the plate. The scene before us, with Eli happily devouring his birthday breakfast and the shared exchange of glances between us, painted a picture of a morning filled with warmth and love. As we enjoyed the simple pleasures of a family meal, the bond that held us together continued to strengthen.
Once we all finished eating, Eli, Enid and I sat on the couch planning the rest of the day. "Where do you want to go, Eli?" I asked him. Eli pondered for a moment, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "The zoo!" he exclaimed, his enthusiasm infectious. Enid and I exchanged smiles, realizing that a trip to the zoo would make Eli's birthday even more memorable. As we continued to plan the day, the anticipation of creating lasting family memories filled the room with joy. I nodded. "Just give us a minute." I said. I then went into the kitchen and came back with a cake. There was a candle on the cake. Eli ran over. "Make a wish." I said. Eli blew out the candles and made his wish. "What'd you wish for?" Enid asked him. "A baby sister." Eli said. Enid and I exchanged surprised glances, then looked back at Eli with affectionate smiles. "A baby sister, huh?" I chuckled, ruffling his hair. The idea of expanding our family filled the room with a new kind of warmth, blending seamlessly with the joy of Eli's birthday celebration. As we continued to savor the moment, the anticipation of the day ahead became even more special. I then got Eli dressed and we made our way to the car. I helped Eli into the back seat. I buckled him in his carseat. I then went into the driver's seat and waited for Enid to get in. Once she did, We were on our way to the zoo. "What do you think about the baby sister wish?" I asked her. Enid smiled as she settled into the car. "It's a beautiful wish," she replied, her eyes reflecting a mix of surprise and delight. "Maybe the universe will grant it one day." We drove towards the zoo, the prospect of a new addition to our family adding an extra layer of sweetness to Eli's birthday celebration and our journey together. I smiled. "We both know that we'll have to try for that one." I said. I heard Eli squeal of happiness as we arrived at the zoo. I giggled and looked at Enid. I helped Eli out of the car. I then walked into the zoo with him in my arms and Enid holding my waist. I smiled. I handed Enid Eli. I continued walking with her. "Do you want to try tonight?" I asked. Enid looked at me, her eyes reflecting a mix of surprise and excitement. "Tonight sounds like a wonderful time to start," she replied with a playful smile. As we strolled through the zoo, the prospect of expanding our family added an extra layer of warmth to the day, creating a beautiful backdrop to Eli's birthday celebration and the new chapter unfolding in our lives.
After spending most of our day at the zoo, We got into the car for the drive home. Eli had already fallen asleep and was sleeping in his carseat. I looked at Enid. Enid's gaze met mine, a contented smile on her face. The day at the zoo had been filled with joy and laughter, and as Eli peacefully slept in the backseat, the tranquility of the moment washed over us. "It's been a perfect day," she whispered, and I couldn't agree more. The drive home became a quiet reflection of the love that surrounded us, creating a beautiful tapestry of family moments.
