You cleared your throat, "We better get going if we want to make it to the library."
Bakugo nodded and you began walking to your destination.
You looked back once at the building, your eyes widened in surprise as you saw a figure standing by one of the windows. This place was still as shady as when you first entered.
It still felt different than being on the other part of the city. The sounds of bustling traffic and chattering pedestrians were replaced by the distant wails of sirens and the occasional shout.
The buildings around you seemed to loom over you, casting dark shadows that made you shiver. You instinctively moved closer to Bakugo, seeking comfort in his presence.
"You're still scared," Bakugo scoffed.
You looked at Bakugo, he had noticed this whole time. "Who wouldn't? This place gives me the creeps," you replied as a ginormous rat ran by.
You quickly stopped as you saw the sight, you gagged on air as you thought of how long it was, was it legal for rats to be that big?
"You can let go of me now," Bakugo told you.
You hadn't noticed that you were clinging onto Bakugo's arm. You replied, "I don't think I want to."
Bakugo scoffed at you and tried to shake you off but you stayed by his side. He looked you up and down and scoffed again, "Scaredy cat." And with that he began to walk again, with your hand in his.
As you kept on walking, you noticed that Bakugo seemed unfazed by the environment, his grip on your hand firm and reassuring. He had a determined expression gave you a sense of security, you couldn't imagine going through this alone. "Why are your hands so fucking cold?"
You turned to him with a confused look on your face, "what?"
"Your hands," he explained. "I might get frostbite just from touching you."
You blushed in embarrassment, wanting to let go of his hand but never doing it. You were just uneasy about everything and his hand- no, it was mostly his attitude that made you feel much more safe. "Sorry, it's just cold."
He scoffed, "cold? It's not Antarctica around here."
"At least my hands aren't sweaty," you retorted back. You can't believe you had just said that to him, it was amazing and scary at the same time.
He pulled your hand out of yours, stuffing it back into his pocket. What did you say? It wasn't as different as what he was saying to you.
You put your own hand into your pocket, feeling guilty for what you had said. You looked forward and noticed that you were both walking away from the shadier parts, the streets became more populated.
The people you mostly saw were either huddled in groups, eyeing you suspiciously, or lurking in the shadows, their faces hidden. You still couldn't help but feel like you were being watched.
So you looked back, but there was no one there, no one was following you. Even after the certainty that there was no one there, there was still an uneasy feeling at the pit of your stomach.
You both walked out from the dark alleyway to the bustling city streets, a sense of comfort washed over you as you heard the sounds of honking cars, chattering pedestrians. And the buildings towering above, their windows reflecting the bright sunlight and creating a dazzling array of colors.
Bakugo took his hand out of his pocket and said, "Phone."
You looked at him from the side of your eye as you took out your phone and gave it to him, you still felt pretty bad about what you said to him and it made it even worse that he never looked at you.
