In the hospital room, the air crackled with a deafening silence. You held Bakugo's hand tightly, your fingers tracing the ridges of his knuckles. The sterile scent of antiseptic clung to the air, mingling with the faint, metallic tang of blood.
A knock echoed through the room, and the door slowly creaked open. A man stepped inside and once you saw who it was, you knew it was a doctor.
You learned to take in the features of people and make inferences of who they were, by this man's white lab coat and stethoscope that rested around his neck, it had to be the doctor. His eyes surveyed the scene before him.
"Good evening," he greeted you both. He then looked down at his clipboard, flipping through a few pages before he spoke again. "I'm Doctor Harada. I've been reviewing Ms. L/n's case."
You nodded, your heart pounding in your chest. "How am I?" You asked.
"You're stable for now," Dr. Harada replied. "The gunshot wound to your knee is a through-and-through, but missed the major blood vessels. The bullet did hit a bone though, we're fortunate that it didn't hit any higher than that bone."
A wave of relief washed over you. "Thank goodness," you whispered.
"However, we'll need to get an orthopedist in to give an opinion," Dr. Harada continued. "Typically, with a gunshot wound of this nature, we perform a washout to remove any debris or fragments that may have entered the wound."
You glanced over to Bakugo, who had been silent to entire time, his brow furrowed in concentration as the doctor explained the results of the tests.
"How long will she be in the hospital?" Bakugo asked.
"Most likely one to five days," Dr. Harada replied, turning to Bakugo. "We'll keep her under observation and monitor her progress. Once the orthopedist has assessed the wound, we'll have a better idea of her recovery timeline."
You nodded, trying to process the information. Bakugo's hand tightened in yours, and you squeezed it back.
"We'll do everything we can to ensure you make a full recovery," Dr. Harada assured you.
He gave a smile before he walked over to the door, he stopped before he exited. "We've also gave notice to your parents about your condition, hopefully they'll be around soon."
Your stomach turned at that, you didn't want to see them. More importantly, you didn't want them to see you like this, all broken and battered up. You knew your mother would cry if she saw you.
Dr. Harada finally left, leaving you both alone in the sterile white space. You turned your attention back to Bakugo. His eyes were closed, his brow furrowed in discomfort. You leaned forward and brushed a stray hair from his forehead.
"I'm going to be okay," you whispered. "We're going to get through this...together."
Bakugo slowly opened his eyes, glancing over to you with a nod. You knew he was a tough guy, but seeing him vulnerable in this situation, his usual bravado replaced by a quiet tension, made your heart ache.
"I know," he replied. Bakugo squeezed your hand one last time, the warmth of his touch seeping into your own.
You hesitated, the urge to hold on and to keep that connection alive, battling with the knowledge that you had to let him go.
He looked towards the door, his gaze a storm of emotions you couldn't understand. Then, unexpectedly, he bent down, a hand resting on the bed beside you, the other moving to gently brush away a stray strand of hair from your face. His touch was surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to his usual explosive demeanor.
He leaned in, his fiery red eyes locking onto yours , and placed a small, soft kiss on your forehead. The warmth of his lips lingered, a spark igniting within you.
