First crush part 4: Mason x Giselle

Giselle's pov

"Now, my child, you are finally old enough to understand that the world does not see God as we do" I looked at my father as he spoke while we rode along in a carriage. We were currently on a trip to spread the word of God to people outside of home. Well, it wasn't THAT far outside of home quite yet, we weren't in Paris anymore, we found ourselves still in France but traveling through a more spacious area, houses sat along in rows up and down the streets, it was similar to the streets of Paris that I wasn't allowed into. The cobblestone ground was dirty and some of the windows amongst the buildings were either boarded up or broken. People were sprinkled here and there, they either looked shifty or unwilling to entertain the shifty ones. I was looking out the window as Father was practicing a few bible verses, mumbling here and there. I could see a palace far in the distance.

"some places need God more than we know and I felt like a good place to start would be just outside of home, still seems far to me though" Father said to me. "yes, father" I nodded before the carriage suddenly came to a halt.

"ah, good, we must be at our hotel that we'll be staying at for the week" Father began to leave the carriage as I followed. He came to an abrupt stop and put his arm out in front of me. He had this horrified look on his face. I looked up to see what was upsetting him. We had gotten out onto the sidewalk in front of a, not so good-looking building. I tried my best to avoid making a face as it wasn't very clean from the outside and there was a pungent musty smell protruding from the inside.

"oh, absolutely not, you will take us to a decent place, is there a church around here?" Father demanded of our driver. "Surely something like that exists instead of this".

Our driver didn't say anything for a moment, contemplating but at the same time, didn't seem to care as he took our luggage out and set it on the ground next to us. We would've used our proper home carriage and driver, but Father was worried about drawing too much attention in an unfamiliar place. "Eh, not any I can think of, you can try walking around" The driver got back into his seat and snapped the reins, urging the horse of the carriage to pull off. "How dare you! By order of the church, I demand you return at once and take us to a proper option than this monstrosity!" Father demanded. The driver waved us off as he got farther.

"if you do not come back right now, I will be forced to enact on my authority granted to me by the church!" Father threatened. The driver made a rude hand gesture before disappearing around a corner. I looked at my father and saw his face turning red before he sighed in defeat, which wasn't often, must be fatigued from the trip.

"I suppose we'll need to make do" Father said as we picked up our luggage and went inside. Father was quick to usher me along, get our room key and go to our room. It had a bed and a couch. I volunteered for the couch, but Father insisted I take the bed. I insisted on me taking the couch, knowing he wasn't used to not sleeping on his bed at home. I could really sleep anywhere, from multiple sleepovers in Quasi's bell tower.

"Father, may I go out and see if I can spread the word to some locals?" I asked after we settled in. "No, my child, you are not to do this alone, we must do it tomorrow, we need plenty of rest and a proper breakfast before spending our day with introducing these people to our savior, thank goodness I've packed proper food, I highly doubt these people can come up with anything of nutritional value" Father shuddered.

"Father, I think we're just in a rough part of the neighborhood, I bet we'll meet plenty of good-hearted people once we talk to them, never judge a book by the cover" I reminded.
