Chapter 9 | Brightside

I laid in bed, light beamed into my room.

It was already the afternoon. I had skipped school.

My eyes were puffy and my pillow was wet from all of my tears.

My phone was buzzing. I sat up and stared at it on my nightstand. I reached over and grabbed it. It was a call, it was Kenny.

I debated on whether I should answer it or not.

I declined the call.

Immediately my phone rang again.

This time I answered.

"Hey Kenny" I said in a monotone voice.

"Are you okay?"

I know I should say yes just to reassure him but hearing that phrase made tears run down my face.

"No Kenny, I'm not okay" I sniffled as I wiped down my tears.

The more I wiped them away the faster they came down.

"I'm coming over, are they uhhh there?"

"Please don't, I just want to be alone"

"Just trust me, are you alone?"

Maybe some comfort could help.

"Yeah" I sniffled.

"Okay, ill be there in 20"

"Okay"

Kenny hung up.

I got under my covers and started crying again.

Time Skip

I woke up to my phone ringing. I sat up and grabbed my phone.

"Hello?" I yawned.

"Can you open the door?" He grunted.

"Um yeah" I said as I got out of bed.

I hung up and put some slippers on. I walked to the front door.

I opened the door and Kenny stood there with a plastic bag.

"Alright, so, i got a few things" He said as he entered my house.

I shut the door behind him. He set the bag on the table. He reached his hand in and began to pull things out.

"I got candy" he said as he pulled out chocolate covered gummy bears.

"Hot chocolate" (Kenny)

"And DIY face masks" (Kenny)

"Sorry it's not much, but in terms of money, im broke" He chuckled.

I smiled.

He grabbed the last thing in the bag. He pulled out a brown stuffed bear.

"And I also got this" He said as he handed me the bear.

"Aww, it's cute, thanks" I said as I held the bear.

"Smell it" He grinned.

I whiffed it. It smelt like strawberries.

"I don't know how that works, but i'm guessing it's magic" He chuckled.

I giggled.

"You didn't have to come or buy me anything"

"Nah, trust me, when my sister is having sad days, sometimes you just need someone there for you, even if it's just their presence" He smiled.

I smiled, holding onto the bear closer to my chest.
