Ch. 6 - the card game

Caleb helped rally all the cards and put them into a neat order again as Cody and Uly shook hands.
"What kind of game is that?" Isabella asked.

Uly turns to look over at her "It's called Randomizer."
"It's a game we created as a young child." Cody added "But we grew onto it, didn't we?"
Uly nods "Cody was the one who created it, not me."
"You helped come up with the rules."
"You just came up with it because you accidentally mixed up all of your cards."

Cody crosses his arms and smiled at Uly in a playful manner "Admit it, you had fun the first time we played it. Even after you called it stupid."
Uly rolled her eyes "Okay yes I did have fun."

A knock on the door quieted Cody's small laughter. A second later, the head of sir Britain peeked into the room "Apologies for interrupting but, umm, dinner will be ready in a moment."
"Dinner?" Isabella asked, glancing at the clock besides her "At this hour?"
"Yes well, we prefer to have dinner earlier than you.. humans."
Uly stands "Okay, thanks for telling us. We'll be down in a moment."

Sir Britain nods once and sips his head out again, shutting the door with a faint click.
Once he left, Cody immediately rushed to open the door again "Come on, let's go help."

[let's just pretend Caleb has been talking and not quiet this whole time]

"But they said-"
"I agree with Cody." Uly said "It's only polite we help with the food after everything they've done for us."

Isabella was about to argue but sighed in defeat a second later "Fine."
Cody and Uly left first. Caleb was about to go too before he stopped and turned around "Come on, it'll be fun." He promised.
Isabella bit down on her lip. So Caleb walked over and took her hand, following the others down the stairs and into the kitchen.

In truth, they got lost. Cody didn't bother to remember the surroundings when they arrived there, unlike Uly. Without her, they'd probably wouldn't know where to go.

So when they entered the kitchen, they expected to see a bunch of chefs working like in a popular restaurant. Instead, they saw two teenage boys similar to their age.
One was smoking a cigarette while leaning on the kitchen counter. He wore a plain white shirt that was tucked into his jeans and a cowboy styled hat on his head. He didn't seem to notice them.
The second one wore a similar shirt to his but his wasn't tucked. It hung loosely over his regular shorts. He was gazing at something in the distance before he turned his head, mouth slightly opened as if he was going to say something when he noticed us and gasped.

Cody smiles and walked over "Hi, I'm Cody Ado. We're here to help with the meal."
Uly quickly walks over and pulls him back "Cody! Can't you read the room?" She sharply whispers.
"I-uhh" The boy said, then turned to his accomplice. The second boy leaned his head to the other boy's side to hear what he was going to say. The first boy pointed to us and the second boy finally turns over and spots us.

He nearly chokes on his cigarette.

It takes a few seconds for him to calm down- with the help of his friend's back pat- before he speaks again "Who- wha- how- why'd you come in the kitchen of all places?"
Uly eyes him suspiciously "If I recall, the kitchen is a no smoking zone."
The boy did not react to Uly's observation at all but he threw his cigarette into the trash can right besides him.

The first boy blinks and turned his attention back to them "Wait, did you say help for dinner?"
Cody's smile widens "Yeah! But it doesn't look like anything's cooking right now."
"Cody-"
"No no," the boy interrupted "It's perfectly fine. Dinner will be ready in a few hours. If you want to help then perhaps some maids will need assistance setting the table."
"Where is the table may I ask?" Isabela asked.
"Do you have a map of the place?" Caleb added.

The second boy nods and pushes himself off the counter "Come, I'll show you." The first boy waits by as the second boy leaves with the group.

They walk down only a few doors before they entered the dining area. The room was big with beautiful gray walls and a big chandelier that hung over the center of the room where a big table with a similar gray tablecloth was placed.
The table was accompanied with 7 chairs total. Each chair had a soft cushion on the bottom and back.

"This is the table." The boy said.
"Wow! It's beautiful!" Cody complimented.
The boy chuckles "You can thank dad for that. He was the one that designed the castle. He helped build most of this place, including this room."
"Your father has beautiful taste." Caleb noted, crossing his arms as he examined the room.
"Mm, he does." The boy shook his head "But that was years ago. All you need should be in the storage room right outside." He walks back and points down the hall right across the room.

The room has a panel hung on the door Storage it said.

"My name is... Austin. (Ik Ik it's a city in Texas but my mind came up with it so shut up) Call me if you need anything."
"We will, thanks a lot Austin." Isabela said and waved as Austin left.

Immediately after he rounded the hall, Isabela rushes to the room where he said everything they needed was at.
She shoved open the door, not caring if it broke off, and went inside. After a few seconds, she comes back with armful of napkins, utensils, and plates. How she was able to balance it they weren't sure.

Isabella walked over to the table and placed all of these things down. Cody walked over to help.
"What are you guys doing?"
Isabela jolted and nearly dropped the plate she was holding "Gosh- Willow! Don't sneak up on us like that!"
Willow chuckles "Sorry sorry, we were just wondering what you were doing."
Owen popped his head out from behind Willow "She got bored and dragged me with her."
"And while they were looking around they rounded up us." Wyatt added.

"And us." Kai interjected.

They looked over to where Alex and Aiden stood. Alex crossed her arms "Don't look at me, Willow suggested we come too."
Willow crossed her arms "So what were you guys doing?"
"This one person named Austin said we could help set the dinner table." Isabela answered.

"This is too small for a dinner table, though." Noah noticed, placing his hand in the table "It's just circular and has 8 chairs-"

"Which is why we're going to set it!" Isabela shouts happily.

And so in the next couple of minutes, everyone had their share in helping to set the table.
They finished quickly, and just in time to watch the sunset.

Well, not exactly. There was no balcony in their rooms so they had to find the way outside and into the front yard.
Where they all sat together and watched the spectacular scene. Sunsets were something they hadn't been able to take the time to enjoy now that there was this new responsibility as representatives of the western states.

"Hello," a servant said. She stood in the doorway of the large front door and watched them "sorry to interrupt but it is time for dinner."
"Oh!" Isabella jumped up "Alright, come in guys!"

They were all starving from a long day so everyone jumped up excitedly at the thought of dinner.
And hopefully they would get to know the more about the family of Britain and France.

Since, well, they've just arrived in this new world.
