The next day, Carmen walked out of her apartment and looked up at the cloudy sky. It wasn't raining yet and She thought she could make it to work before anything started.

Around 5 minutes into the walk, rain poured down on the city. Carmen groaned, and started running through it, muttering small apologies as she bumps into people on the sidewalks.

By the time she had made it inside she was already soaking wet.

"It'll be a cold day in hell when you remember to bring an umbrella..." Luke sighed from behind the counter.

"I have a reason this time though, it wasn't raining when I left!" Carmen explained, taking off her jacket and walking to the back.

"We live in NewYork, you always bring an umbrella, Carmie." Effie clicked her tongue and tapped her on the forehead as she walked past.

"Do ya need a towel hun? Maybe a change of clothes?" A smaller southern voice questioned, resting a hand on carmens shoulder.

"And there's your savior~" Luke whistled, examining his nails as she shot a glare at him. He scoffed, dramatically putting a hand to his chest. "You look at your mother like that?"

She rolled her eyes at his words, then glanced back at the shorter woman. "Yes- please. Thanks Georgia. " Carmen forced a small smile and nodded.

"It should be around yer size." She hummed, and gestured to a small group of lockers in the back. "Here, I'll open it for ya." She walked over and started twisting a small padlock. Georgia was a pretty average woman, she had brown hair that was always in a ponytail and hazel eyes.

"Thanks again..." She muttered out, shivering behind her. She handed carmen a small bundle of clothes and said a quick-

"Oh no need to thank me, just a common courtesy." Georgia reassured, pushing the clothes into her hands.

Carmen grabbed them and headed over to the bathroom, locking herself in a small stall. The clothes were a little big, and there were definitely noticeable wrinkles on them.

A loud 'CLINK' hit the floor as she unraveled them, and she looked down to see. It seemed to be a small silver ring with a reflective purple stone.

'It's probably Georgia's, I'll give it back to her after our shift.' Carmen thought, putting the ring back into the pocket it fell out of.

After changing, she shuffled out of the bathroom and saw a few customers already waiting outside the door.

'No... Please... Come on.. Maybe.. Just for today? please just leave.. Just-'

"Welcome to The Coffee Corner, how are you doing today?" She smiled warmly as the customer walked towards her.

"Hey Gorgeous, I'm doing just fine, and you?" A familiar voice asked, Carmen looked up and saw the same woman that had come the day before.

"Ah, hey..." Carmen trailed off, silently looking at the woman for a few moments. "Yea-yea, good uh, i'm- im good..." she chuckled nervously. "And what can I get for you?" She looked up at the woman and was met by a smirking face.

"Caramel Frap with extra whip cream," She hummed with a cocky smirk. "And also, I think I'll try that strawberry croissant. Please, darling~" She leaned on the counter as she spoke.

Carmen looked down, fidgeting slightly. "Ok then, that adds up to... $15.98. Cash or card?" She asked, still not looking up.

"Cash, thank you, love." The woman smiled, handing her a twenty. As Carmen went to take the cash, the woman gently grabbed her hand and placed a small kiss to the back of her hand. Before she pulled away the woman slipped a paper into her hand.

Carmen quickly pulled back, her face warmed as she looked at the woman.

"It's- um.. It is, Abigail... Right?" She focused her gaze on a small plastic cup, shakily holding a sharpie.

"Mhm~" Abigail muffled a small chuckle, walking to a table to wait for her order.

Carmen looked at the paper in her hand and shoved it into her pocket. Shrinking behind the counter as she crouched down, she knew her face was red.

"What is it like to live my dream..." Effie's voice grumbled from behind her. She took a few steps closer, "You gonna be ok..?" She stifled a laugh.

Carmen shot up, spooking Effie a bit.

"Yep. I'm great." She replied stiffly, her arms straight at her sides.

"Yeah, sure. Tell yourself that." Luke whistled from the back.

— 5 hours later —

"Hey- Georgia, when you gave me these clothes I think your... ring was in there." Carmen started, walking up to Georgia at the end of their shift. She held up the small ring in her hand, Georgia seemed caught off guard, but masked it.

"Ah, it's alright, you can keep it."She smiled, waving her off.

"Are you sure-"

"I insist." She gave Carmen an odd stare, and Carmen shoved the ring back into her pocket, nodding slowly.

"Alright, well I'll make sure to wash these and give them back tomorrow, if thats ok..?" She chuckled nervously, backing up towards Effie. She seemed to have the same reaction Carmen did. "Did you see that look she gave me..?" Carm whispered, leaning back into her.

"Yea... That's weird, she's usually pretty calm." Effie answered, shrugging. "Anyway, what's that ring look like!" She cheered, and took it out of Carm's pocket, examining it, taking it in her hands and checking out the stone. Luke looked over Carmen's shoulder.

"I don't know what that stone is, but it looks pretty." He cooed.

"Same deal people, I got some school to do. Effie-" Carmen started, but was cut off.

"Come on, let's go~" Effie hummed, pulling her by the scruff of her shirt.

"Hey- that's just unnecessary!- I have legs!" Carmen protested as she was being pulled along.

...

......

........

After Carm had gotten home and completed at least 3 inches in height of schoolwork, 'Oh yea that ring.'

She thought and checked the pockets of the uniform, Pulling out the small silver ring. It was then she realized she hadn't gotten changed out of her work uniform. She changed into a baggy shirt and sweatpants and threw the uniform into the washer.

The time read '12:34 AM' Carmen knew if she didn't at least try to sleep now, the night would go on until 4AM. She shut off the lights and flopped onto her twin bed.

As Carmen drifted off, the silver ring that was carelessly placed onto her nightstand started glowing a vibrant purple. Continuing to get brighter and brighter,

"Ah... What-" Carmen squinted her eyes, focusing her mind onto the small ring, taking it in her hands. "What are you..?" She trailed off, slipping the ring onto her ring finger. It immediately shrunk in size, fitting her finger perfectly, Carmen was taken aback and began trying to pull it off.

The light grew brighter, almost blinding her. A horrible pounding shook her head, and pain enveloped her.

BOOM

A massive shockwave erupted from the ring's purple stone, Knocking Carmen out and causing everything to shut off. The ring, and the street lights surrounding the dorms.
