Back at your house, the air is thick with the scent of potion-brewing. Garreth stands around the cauldron, which bubbles with a bright blue liquid. Sebastian hands you the clothes you'll wear as part of your disguise, and you change into the casual white dress.
"Do you really think this will work?" you ask Sebastian, a mix of hope and uncertainty in your voice.
Sebastian meets your gaze with reassuring eyes. "Absolutely. Trust me, it will work."
Garreth, having finished the potions, hands each of you a vial. "On the count of three, you drink. Remember, this is your ticket into the Ministry."
You nod in unison, and with a shared breath, you drink. Almost immediately, a peculiar sensation envelops you. The world blurs, and you feel a shift within your body. It's almost as if you're being pulled and pushed all at once, and a moment later, you feel the strange sensation fade.
As the effects of the potion take hold, you reach a hand up and run it through your long, cherry-red hair. Unexpectedly, your hair gets stuck on the ring on your left hand, and that's how you notice it—a dazzling engagement ring on your finger.
"That ring is huge," Sebastian chuckles. "Wonder what your fiance is trying to compensate for."
Garreth nudges his shoulder, shaking his head. "Oh, stop it. It's a beautiful ring, and Madeline is a lucky woman."
"Madeline?" you repeat.
"It's your name," he nods. "According to Ominis, all three of us have reasons to be at the Ministry, but what those reasons are precisely... Ominis didn't say."
"Great, so we're all playing guessing games," you grumble.
Sebastian grins mischievously, "Well, at least it looks like you're getting married."
You roll your eyes, feigning excitement, "Oh, thrilled. I hope it's you." Sebastian passes a wink your way.
Interrupting your banter, Garreth walks between you, a serious expression on his face. "Enough chatter, it's time to go. Y/N, you are Madeline Fallen, I am Archie Baker, and Sebastian is Henry Stevens. Stick to those names and act normal, or else this will all fall apart."
With a final nod, the three of you turn to leave. As the front door closes behind you, a wave of anxiety washes over you.
Led by Garreth and Sebastian this time, you make your way to a public bathroom downtown. They then explain the way to get into the Ministry is through the toilets. It's a strange idea, but you decide to trust them.
Once you walk into the women's room, you glare down at the toilet. "Flush myself down?" you repeat to yourself. "I must have heard them wrong. This isn't a prank, is it?"
With a deep breath, you step inside the toilet, and then, before you can think too much about it, flush the toilet. In a sudden rush of water, you're sucked downwards. In an instant, you find yourself appearing in a green burst of flames within the Ministry. However, there's no sign of Archie or Henry.
As you walk down the hallway, a woman in a powder pink dress approaches you. "Come on, Maddy, you'll be late!" she exclaims, grabbing you by the hand and running with you to the elevators. Once inside, she turns to you and fixes your hair.
"The cherry red looks good on you, much better than the navy it was before," she remarks.
"Navy sounds like a good idea," you mutter as she continues fixing your appearance.
"I had been telling you to change the color for ages, but no. Now look at you. Hot!" she laughs.
You can't help but chuckle awkwardly, not entirely sure how to respond. Whoever this person is, she's clearly very close with Madeline.
The elevator doors open and the woman leads you down the hall and into a courtroom. A judge high up asks you to repeat your full name.
"Madeline Fallen," you gulp, crossing your fingers in prayer that you remember her name correctly.
"And where is your fiance?" he then inquires.
"Apologies, Your Honor. I'm afraid he's running a bit late. He'll be here any minute," you stammer, hoping the excuse would be sufficient.
"Hmm. Alright. You may take a seat and wait," he waves his hand dismissively, and you breathe a sigh of relief. "But if he's not here in ten minutes, I'm moving on to the next couple."
A few moments after you and Madeline's friend sit down to wait, Sebastian, dressed as Henry Stevens, comes running out of breath into the room. You stand up with a gasp, surprised that it's him of all people.
"Merlin, he's so fine," your friend remarks as she stands up too.
You look at her with eyebrows furrowed before pushing her back into her seat. "This is my wedding day, not yours," you remind her, causing her to pout.
Henry walks towards you, taking your hands in his. "Don't worry, Garreth's on it," he whispers to you.
The judge then calls for your attention, "Henry Stevens and Madeline Fallen. Please come forward."
"Let's go," you say, grabbing Henry's hand and pulling him forward.
The judge then proceeds to marry you with something called a 'binding kiss'. According to your friend, you and Henry had been having some issues in your relationship and requested the spell as a way to strengthen the bond between you two. It's all very bizarre, but you can't really say no.
"Just make sure you think of him," she whispers from beside you as the judge readies his wand. "It makes you fall in love with whomever you think of first!"
At that moment, your mind flickers to Ominis.
"Let's begin," the judge declares, pointing his wand at the two of you.
Suddenly, a surge of magical energy flows through your body. Sebastian locks eyes with you and you can see the moment it happens. It's like a spark has ignited inside of him, and the light in his eyes has shifted to something else.
"You may kiss the bride," the judge announces.
Sebastian leans forward, cupping your cheek and giving you a gentle kiss. His lips brush against yours, soft and smooth. A shiver runs down your spine, and the moment seems to last forever. You can't not kiss him back but you can tell he's trying not to deepen it.
When you pull away, the judge is staring at the two of you in awe.
"Well," he starts. "That's certainly the most romantic kiss I've seen all day.Glad to know my spell still works."
"Thanks," you smile, feeling a little guilty for what you just did.
As the two of you silently walk out of the room, the guilt settles deeper.
"That was, uh..." Sebastian tries to speak, breaking the silence between the two of you. "Not what I was expecting," he hums as you get into the elevator.
"Yeah, me neither," you nod.
He then turns to you, "Did you, uh, think of Ominis?"
"I did," you smile softly as you look down at your feet. "How about you? Garreth, maybe," you tease.
"No," he chuckles. "I actually, um, I thought of... well..."
Just then, the elevator doors open and the face of Archie Baker stands before you, completely changing the course of the conversation.
"Come on, you two. We don't have all day!"
