OMINIS' P.O.V.
As I stroll through the Hogwarts corridors, the sounds of footsteps approach me and I sense his presence. My father. A mix of emotions surge within me- anger, frustration, and a deep-seated need to impress. To make him proud.
"Good afternoon, Father," I greet him.
"Ominis," he replies coldly, his voice carrying an air of disinterest. "How is school? Any remarkable achievements at Hogwarts thus far?"
I straighten my posture, striving to convey an air of confidence. "Classes are progressing well. I've been keeping up with my studies."
He nods, a hint of impatience in his demeanor. "Good, good. But remember, Ominis, mediocrity is not acceptable. The Gaunt name expects excellence."
I grit my teeth at the reminder of the burdensome legacy attached to our family name. "I understand, Father. I strive for excellence in all my endeavors."
His piercing gaze scrutinizes me, as if searching for any sign of weakness. "And your magical abilities? Have you been honing your skills?"
"Yes, Father," I reply, my voice unwavering. "I've been practicing diligently, exploring new spells, and refining my abilities."
He seems momentarily satisfied but quickly shifts the conversation to more trivial matters. The weather, Hogwarts traditions, and other inconsequential topics. It's evident that our interactions are more about appearances than genuine connection.
As we continue our journey through the castle, I catch a distinct metallic scent in the air. The unmistakable odor of blood. I discreetly sniff the air, realizing that the scent is emanating from my father. The realization adds another layer of discomfort to our already strained conversation, a reminder of the dark elements that linger in the shadows of my family's history.
When we reach Headmaster Black's office, my father casually mentions that he is having tea with the headmaster and invites me to join. Unwillingly, I agree.
He knocks on the door, and Black answers, extending a courteous welcome.
"How nice to see you, Lord Gaunt," the headmaster says as we enter his office.
After a brief handshake, Black guides me to a couch and my father takes a seat beside me.
"Ominis," he says in a cold tone, "make yourself useful and pour the tea."
"Yes, sir," I answer, my tone devoid of emotion. As I use my wand to pour the tea, the metallic scent seems only to intensify. I wonder if the headmaster can smell it too.
My father and Black converse politely, exchanging pleasantries and discussing the various affairs of the wizarding world. Their conversation is superficial, a mere front to maintain the appearance of civility.
"So, Ominis, how have you been finding your year at Hogwarts?" Headmaster Black asks me.
"I hope he's been focused on his studies even more in his last year," my father adds casually. "I hope his friends aren't getting in the way of his focus."
"Ominis, please enlighten us," Black says, ignoring the remark and motioning for me to speak.
I clear my throat. "Everything is fine, sir. My studies are progressing smoothly and I've been making new friends."
"Ah, that's right," Black nods, making me immediately regret my words. "I've heard you've formed a connection with Ms. Bennett. Our new..." he begins to trail off, realizing this wasn't such a good thing to say in front of my father.
"New student?" my father immediately questions. "That's unheard of. Must be some kind of mistake."
"I had recently hired her brother as our new muggles studies teacher, trying to be inclusive and all," Black chuckles awkwardly. "They are both muggles."
"You are friends with a muggle?!" he snaps, his voice dripping with disgust. "Have I taught you nothing, boy? This is unacceptable! You should have known better."
"Father, I-"
"Enough! I will not have my heir consorting with muggles."
"I believe their relationship may be romantic in nature," Black says.
My father's expression grows dark and his anger boils over.
"A muggle lover?!" He slams his fist on the coffee table. "This is the utmost dishonor. The Gaunt family name will not tolerate such a disgrace."
I remain silent, unable to defend myself.
"I will not have this filth tarnishing our family legacy," my father spits as he glances back at Headmaster Black. "How could you allow this, Black?"
"We must be open-minded," Black tries to diffuse the situation, but to no avail.
"Open-minded? This is unacceptable. I won't allow my son to tarnish the Gaunt name with such disgraceful associations. Headmaster Black, I demand immediate expulsion for this muggle. I will not stand by and allow my son to be associated with such filth."
Black hesitates for a moment before reluctantly agreeing. "Of course, Lord Gaunt."
"As for you, Ominis, I expect more from you. You are a Gaunt and must carry yourself accordingly. I will not tolerate such indecency," he snaps, turning his attention to me. "You will be coming home after the final exams. No questions. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must make my departure. I've grown tired of this unpleasant situation. Ominis, we will discuss this further once you return home."
He turns on his heel and exits the office, slamming the door behind him.
"My apologies," Black says, his voice heavy with concern. "I had not considered my words would have such a reaction."
"No need, sir," I grumble as I stand to my feet.
"Of course," he nods. "And please, tell Ms. Bennett my sincere apologies, but I will be having a conversation with her this weekend about her situation here at the school."
"She won't take it well," I admit.
"I'm sorry, but it is necessary," Black explains. "You of all people know the power your father has in the wizarding world. If he's unhappy, many others are likely to be as well. I have to take his request seriously."
"I understand, sir," I say, defeated.
As I walk out of the room, thoughts of Y/N swirl around my mind. I can't imagine the heartache that is waiting for her. The rejection.
And all because of my father.
As I return back to the Slytherin dorms, I hear Sebastian call my name from across the common room. I approach him with a frown still on my face and he catches on rather quickly.
"Hey, what's up with you?" he questions me, a worried expression on his face. "You look like someone killed your cat."
"Y/N is going to get expelled," I mumble, unable to hide my disappointment.
"What?" he gasps, his eyes wide. "Why? What happened?"
I shake my head. "It's my father. He found out about Y/N and he's not happy about it."
"Shit, man," Sebastian sighs, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder. "That sucks."
"Yeah," I say, my voice low and sullen. "I can't lose her, Sebastian. Not like this."
He nods, his brow furrowing. "Well actually... there might be a way..."
