Emma was jolted awake by the loud knocking on her front door. She looked at the clock and groaned, realizing it was still early in the morning. She shifted slightly, feeling the warm body of Abigail, curled up next to her. She smiled, enjoying the peaceful moment before reality hit her.

She gently shook Abigail awake and whispered, 'Baby, someone's at the door. Get dressed quickly.' Abigail groggily got up and started putting on her clothes. Emma quickly got dressed as well and went to answer the door. Emma's heart was pounding in her chest as she heard the knock on the door again. Emma's mind raced with possibilities. Could it be a parent of one of her students? Or maybe her nosy neighbor who had been suspicious of their late-night visits? Emma couldn't let anyone find out about their relationship. It could ruin her career and Abigail's future.

Finally dressed and presentable, Emma opened the door to find her mother standing there with a stern look on her face. Emma hadn't talked to her mother since she moved to town to start teaching at the high school. Their relationship had always been rocky, and Emma knew her mother wouldn't approve of her relationship with Abigail.

'Hello, Emma,' her mother said stiffly, looking around the house with disapproval written all over her face.

'Mother, what are you doing here?' Emma asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

'I came to visit and to see for myself how you're doing,' her mother replied, her tone cold and judgmental.

'I'm fine' Emma replied.

Emma took a deep breath, ready to face her mother's disapproval, but to her surprise, her mother didn't say anything. She simply smiled and said, 'I'm glad to see that you're happy, Emma. That's all a mother can ask for.'

Abigail sat in front of the grand piano in the corner of the music room, her delicate fingers dancing across the ivory keys as she played a beautiful classical piece. The sweet melody filled the room, echoing off the walls and creating a tranquil atmosphere. She closed her eyes, allowing herself to get lost in the music.

As she played, her mind wandered to the person who inspired her to play in the first place - Emma. Emma was her high school music teacher, but she was also Abigail's secret lover. They had been seeing each other for months now, keeping their relationship hidden from everyone else. Emma was everything that Abigail had ever wanted - kind, talented and beautiful.

Suddenly, Abigail was interrupted by the sound of the music room door opening. She quickly stopped playing and turned to see Emma's mother standing in the doorway, a warm smile on her face. Emma was standing behind her, looking a bit flustered.

'Mom this is Abigail; she is here for a music lesson' Emma said nervously looking at Abigail.

'Abigail, that was beautiful. I heard it from the door and just had to come in,' Emma's mother gushed. 'You are so talented.'

Abigail blushed, feeling a flutter in her stomach. 'Thank you,' she said shyly.

Emma's mother turned to her daughter. 'Emma, why don't you play something for us as well?'

Emma nodded; her cheeks also tinged with pink. She walked over to the piano and sat next to Abigail, their fingers almost touching as they played a duet. The music filled the room once again, but this time, there was an added layer of emotion - the love that Abigail and Emma shared.

As they finished playing, Emma's mother clapped, a tear in her eye. 'You two play so beautifully together. It's like you're in sync.'

Abigail glanced at Emma, her heart swelling with love. Emma looked back at her with a loving smile. Emma's mother clapped, tears in her eyes as she saw the love between them. She took both of their hands and said, 'I may not understand it, but I can see that you two are meant to be together. Don't let anyone or anything stop you from being happy.'

Emma's jaw dropped in shock. She couldn't believe her mom was approving of her relationship. She had expected a lecture, but instead, her mom seemed genuinely happy for her.

Emma couldn't help but ask, 'You're not mad?'

'Why would I be mad? As long as she treats you with respect and supports your goals, I have no problem with you dating her, but you two have to be careful, at least until Abigail graduates' her mom replied with a warm smile.

The days flew by and soon it was time for Emma's mom to go back home. As they said their goodbyes at the airport, Emma felt a sense of determination and hope. She hugged her mom tightly and whispered, 'I promise we will talk more from now on, I love you.' Her mom smiled and hugged her back, 'I love you too, sweetie.'

Emma hugged her mom tightly, feeling grateful and relieved. She had never felt this close to her mom before. It was then that Emma realized how much she had taken her mom for granted and how she had neglected their relationship. She made a promise to herself that she would change things and make more time for her mom.
