Domestic violence warning  ⚠️

Emma woke up with a heavy heart, hoping to see a text message from Abigail. Instead, all Emma found was silence. Emma got ready for work. She was prepared for the long shift ahead of her. she wasn't expecting was to find a mysterious letter on her car's windshield with a flower. She didn't know who the sender was, but the letter was signed with the letter A.

Emma felt a sense of unease come over her as she tried to figure out who this mystery person was and why they had left her a letter. She slowly opened the letter. Inside was a short message that said, 'I'll be waiting for you at the cafe.'

She thought about ignoring the message and going to work but the nagging feeling wouldn't go away. Taking a deep breath, Emma decided to take the risk she called into work sick and went to the cafe.

When she arrived, Emma stepped through the door of the cafe, the familiar smells of coffee and conversation filling the air calming her nerves. Then, her eyes settled on a figure in the corner booth. She froze in terror. She saw the one person she never wanted to see again in her life. It was her ex, Alex. The man she'd been running from for the past six months.

Emma's heart sank. She could see from the look on his face that he was angry. She started to back out of the cafe, but Alex quickly jumped up from his chair and moved towards her menacingly. He grabbed her arm tightly and dragged her towards a seat. His face was stern, his piercing gaze locked onto her in an unmistakable threat. She had nowhere to go, no way to escape his grasp. All Emma could manage was a soft whimper. Everyone was staring at them, but no one dared interfere.

'Why did you leave me?' he asked, rage warping his otherwise handsome features. 'Don't you know that I'll always find you? You can't run from me.'

Emma knew this was true. Her ex had money, connections, and a warped sense of entitlement. Even though she thought she'd been clever when she disguised herself and booked the bus for her escape, he'd tracked her down.

He then said the words that would haunt her for the rest of her life.

'I know about your new girlfriend. If you want to see her alive, you'll come with me now.'

Emma looked around the cafe, hoping somebody would come to her rescue, but there was nobody. She was alone and scared.

She knew she wouldn't be able to escape her ex's clutches, so she reluctantly agreed to come with him and they left the cafe.

Once outside, Emma's ex grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him. He tightened his grip enough to hurt her, and she yelped in pain.

'If you ever try to run away again,' he said in a low, threatening voice, 'you and your girlfriend won't be so lucky next time.'

Emma didn't say anything. She knew any further attempts to escape would only get her and her girlfriend into deeper trouble. So she silently walked with him, her mind racing with thoughts, desperate to find a way out of this situation.

Emma was terrified. She had no choice but to get in his car. He drove her to a house that his family owned about an hour away. As they were driving, Emma silently texted her best friend the safe word they had come up with just in case something like this happened. This would let her friend know to call the cops and track her location.

When they finally arrived at the house, Emma was too scared to move. Her ex-boyfriend started yelling, demanding that she come inside.

Emma stepped out of the car and her ex's grip on her arm tightened as if to keep her from running away. Before she had a chance to make a move, he brought his hand up and struck her across the face, sending her tumbling to the ground in a heap of pain and tears.

Emma's heart raced as her ex dragged her by the arm into the house and locked the door behind him. Little did he know that with that single text, help was coming for her.
