Abigail slowly opened her heavy eyelids and saw the white, sterile walls of the room. She wondered why she was here, why she felt so exhausted and weak. She tried to sit up in the bed, her limbs felt like concrete bricks being pulled up by rubber bands. She nodded back off into a deep slumber.

When she woke again her vision was blurred and her head felt heavy. Abigail looked around the unfamiliar scenery with a sense of unease. Everywhere she looked there was nothing to jog her memory and no one to tell her who she was. She couldn't remember why she was here or how she got here. She searched her pockets for clues, but all that was there was a crumpled piece of paper with an address on it, her name, and the words 'find your way back home'.

She looked up when she saw the door open and a nurse walk in. The nurse smiled. 'Oh, you're awake!' She said warmly. 'You've been on complete bed rest for the past seven days. You were in a coma. Do you remember what happened?'

'Where am I? What happened?' Abigail painfully asked the woman.

The woman let out a deep sigh before answering. 'You were in a car accident. You were brought here to the hospital .'

Abigail's heart sank as fear set in. She tried to think and comprehend what had happened, but the answers weren't coming. What was her name? Where was she from? Why couldn't she remember anything?

The woman softly spoke again,'Abigail, you've been through quite a traumatic experience. It's not uncommon for the mind to take a little while to process such events . You may find yourself with some gaps in your memory for a while .'

The nurse told Abigail that due to head trauma caused by the accident, she had developed amnesia and was unable to remember anything about herself or her life.

The nurse suggested that Abigail start making a list of questions. She suggested that she go one step at a time, and figure out who she was, her family, friends, hobbies, etc.

Suddenly a woman rushed into the room. She was crying uncontrollably, and Abigail immediately felt as though she should know the woman.

"Abigail, thank God you're ok. I was so worried!" the woman cried.

Abigail stared, unsure of how to respond. Who was this woman, and why was she calling her by name? She couldn't recognize the woman, but she knew she had some sort of connection to her.

The woman wiped her tears and looked at Abigail in surprise. 'It's Emma, do you remember me?' She asked.

Abigail closed her eyes and tried to think hard but nothing more came to her. 'I can't...I don't remember...'

Emma smiled sadly. 'It's okay,' she said. She gave Abigail a hug and said, 'But I'm here for you, and we'll get through this together.'

'I love you' Emma said.

Abigail was overwhelmed with emotion. She didn't know what to do or say, so she just nodded. Emma took her hand and held it tight.
