An eternal darkness always comes to swallow me whole when I am in love
I lurk patiently in her shadow waiting to be seen
Vultures circling waiting to strike, waiting for her to reject my everlasting love
Her essence lingers even in the darkest of nights
I would be a fool to succumb to the darkness, to walk away from her
I see her face with every song that I sing
I hear her voice with every poem I write
I feel her touch with every rose petal that brushes my hands
I know that she will not see me unless I let my presence be known
Impulsively, I leap out into the golden glow of the sun
She sees me, but continues to walk away
I shrink back into the shadows
The vultures notice, and swoop down to feast on my now moribund soul
When there is nothing left, they return to her side
Their plan worked, I am no longer
But even though I have been banished to the unknown, I still love her
