Elodie

December 7, 1945

I leave the institution and head home to pick up Loraline. When I finally arrive home, I place my bags by the front door and that is when I see Irene and Lorrie colouring. I head over to the sofa and lie down, exhausted.

"Hi, Momma!" Lorrie exclaims.

"Evening, Elodie." Irene smiles.

"Hi, ladies." I say, knowing the sound is muffled due to my head being submerged into the cushion. My eyes are closed and my breathing is soft. I turn to the side, finally able to inhale oxygen. I keep my eyes shut and lie there in peace. Until Lorrie comes jumping on my back that was soon followed by laughter.

"Momma! Is Cici coming back?" She asks me, getting off of me. I roll over to my back and sit up.

"Yes, around four hours from now." I say, closing my eyes and placing my hands on my stomach.

"Elodie, I recommend you heading to your room. You seem rather tired. Get some rest, I'll be sure to wake you up if you're not already when Cecilia gets off of work." I nod, barely processing what she just said.

I get up and stumble up-stairs to my room. I change into a long white night gown and crawl in bed. I get comfortable under the warm, soft blanket and close my eyes.

"Elodie..." I hear a muffled voice call my name. "Elodie!" Then voice grew louder. I strech and rub my eyes. I see Irene standing right beside my bed. I see Irene looking down at me. I sit up and check the clock.

"It's 5:30! Already?" I ask, she nods. "I slept nearly all day!" I groan, I get up and quickly change as Irene goes back down stairs.

Once I'm done I head down stairs and grab my coat, keys, and purse. I head out the door when I hear Loraine's little voice behind me.

"Momma, can I come? Please, momma!" She pouts. I shake my head and smile.

"Hurry along." I say and she does. We get in the car and I drive off to Cecilia's job. On our way there, Loraline hums a song to herself. When I finally get to her job I see her outside. I quickly pulls up next to her and she gets in.

"Hello." She says with a smile. Her warm, sweet voice fills my body and sends a shiver right down my spine. I clear my throat and brush it off, not wanting to seem vulnerable to something so small.

"Hi Cici!" Loraline says from the back seat. Cecilia turns around, in excitement and smiles.

"Hi, baby!" She exclaims with a bright smile.

As I begin to drive off, Cecilia and Lorrie go on a rant. I'm in my own world. Thinking about how well Lorrie and Cecilia get along. Thinking about Cecilia's tender touch. Thinking about touching Cecilia. I guess I begin to smile because Cecilia places her left hand on my lap. I try not to tense up.

"What are you thinking about?" She askes me, I feel her eyes sore across my body. "I must say, you look heavenly." I smirk.

"Thank you." I reply, ignoring her question completely. She moves her hand higher up my thigh. I look at her and raise a singular eyebrow. She does the same thing.

"I asked you a question." She blurts out.

"I'm aware." I state, looking back at the road in front of me. She begins to move her hand higher but I stop her. "I wouldn't do that if I were you, darling." I announce, still facing the long empty road. She chuckles, keeping her hand where it was.

As the darkness grows, we finally arrive home. I find myself and a sleeping Lorraline, who's in my arms, rushing inside the quiet house. Cecilia follows closely behind us. I put Lorrie in her bed and change her clothes, trying my best not to wake her. When I walk out of her room, I find Cecilia facing the kitchen counter with her arms crosses and head down. I come up behind her and place my arms around her waist. She swiftly turns around.
