Cecilia
December 9 1945
When we eat lunch, Elodie and Lamar sit on the ends of the table, alone. Vera sits to the right of Lamar and Bennett sits to the right of Elodie. I sit in the middle of Vera and Loraline. Lillian sits in the middle of Bennett and Irene.
"You did this yourself? It's so delicious!" Vera asks with one of the brightest smiles I've ever seen. I must say she's a beautiful woman. Her dark hair and green eyes go beautiful together. I can tell her hair was in pin curls, it looks full and yet so perfectly natural.
"Thank you." Elodie smiles. She looks over at Lama who is pouring himself his fourth glass of wime. "You look like you haven't had my cooking in days, sweetie." She jokes with a grin. He glares and I choke on my food with discrete laughter.
Once we all have lunch Elodie and Irene clean the table then her and Lillian leave. The rest of us head to Elodie's living room while Elodie pours us glasses of wine.
Vera and Bennett sit together on one sofa while Elodie and Lamar sit on the other and I sit on her wingback chair.
Elodie has her legs crossed as she leans on her armrest, away from Lamar. Lamar sits straight up with his hand on Elodie's leg.
"Hey, Cecilia?" Vera whispers to me, while everyone else speak to each other. I'm guessing so nobody hears her but I see Elodie's eyes shoot this way.
"Yes?" I whisper back, leaning in a bit so it's not too obvious but also so I'm able to hear her better. She lightly jerks her head to the right as she gets up, I'm guessing to tell me to follow her, so I do.
She grabs my hand and drags me in front of her. She grabs my waist.
"Uh? Vera what-"
"Relax." She chuckles and directs me to the kitchen. She pulls me around the corner and pushes me against the refrigerator
"Vera." I say sternly.
"Cecilia. Do you want everyone seeing these?" She laughs, taking off my neckerchief. "Would you like my help to cover these or not?" I feel my face go hot. I turn my head to the left and lightly nod.
"Yes please." I mutter
"How about we head to the bathroom? Incase someone walks in here and so we'll be more comfortable." She offers. I nod once more and throw the neckerchief over my neck, not worried about tying it back.
She grabs my hand and now drags us past the living room and down the hall to Elodie's bathroom. I see her eyes follow us.
"You seem to know her house well, I thought it was your first time here?"
"Goodness no. Elodie and I have been friends for years. Her husband just doesn't know that." She shrugs with a wink. "Now sit on the counter so we're level." She laughs. I do as she says and she pulls makeup out of her purse.
"Now, I know it will look a little crazy at first but just trust me." She smiles. She grab my face and turns it. "Your face is still red from that slap that attacker-"
"My beau." I interrupt. She looks me in her eyes and I see the hurt. She pulls me close and wraps her arms around me.
"I'm so sorry." She cries before letting out a gasp and pulling me back. "Did he.." she runs her hand over the hickeys.
"Goodness no!" I shout. "That was someone else." I mutter.
"Hm. You'll have to tell me more about that later." She chuckles. She puts some yellow makeup over my hickeys and some green makeup my slap bruise. She then pulls out a shade of foundation and this is when I realize we have the same one. I just don't use mine. She lightly and evenly distributes it over my neck and face since my chest is covered.
