Elodie

December 10 1945

Vera sits with me on the sofa. When we hear yelling upstairs our head swings that way. I thought about what could be happening up there, I'm sure Vera was too. But, Vera snapped out of it a lot quicker than I did. She grabbed my face, before turning it toward hers. She has a grin on her face before she grabs both of my hands.

"Wait, Elodie? When are Lillian and Irene getting here?" She asks, I'm guessing to get my mind away from everything that is happening.

"Uh, well they're probably at Irene's house. Irene would usual come around 8." I breathe.

"Wait, they're Irene's house?" She gasps. "They finally got together?!" I nod eagerly with a smile. She smiles ear to ear. "I've been waiting for eons! Irene just seemed so unsure." She sighs with that same smile.

A few seconds later we hear foots steps from the stairs.

Bennett is nearly dragging Lamar to the bottom. Lamar has a black eyes and a busted lip. I look away once Bennett begins to speak. Vera holds my hands tighter, not squeezing them so they hurt, enough to let me know she's here with and for me.

"His extra key to the house is upstairs in the bathroom. He'll be back later today to grab the rest of this belongings." Bennett says as Lamar makes his way for the door. He opens the door and slams it behind him.

Vera flinches at the loud sound.

"My goodness." She smacks her teeth with and eye roll.

"Uh, where's Cecilia?" Bennett asks. I look at Vera and she looks at me. I look away because but my eyes pool. Vera's eye frown and I completely lose it..

"Awe!" Vera cried with a pout, grabbing me and pulling me close. I see Vera glare at him as she holds my face.

"I'm sorry, did I strike a nerve?" He asks with his hands up and a concerned look.

"N-no." I laugh, still crying as I wipe my eyes, moving back from Vera. "I mean, it's fine. I just don't think she'll be back." I hold back anymore tears as my breathing hitched.

"She'll be back. You just have to talk to her." Vera reassured me, she kissed my head and grabbed my face. "And if she's doesn't is she really worth your time?" Vera whispers in my ear with a scrunched up nose.

"You're too pretty to be crying." She smiled and said aloud, wiping my tears with her thumbs. I'm flattered. I haven't been feeling like myself. It makes me feel warm inside that she called me pretty because she's one of the prettiest women I've ever seen.

"Thank you." I chuckle. I inhale and slowly exhale, getting my breathing together.

"Now can we all get some sleep? We all barley got an hour before we went to bed." Bennett groans.

"Alright, I'm sorry for waking everyone up." I smile, wiping my eyes again.

"You didn't wake anyone. I woke Bennett up because I wanted a glass of water." Vera chuckles with a wink. "Now get out of those clothes and head to bed." She kisses my head.

"Right, soon. Sleep well." I add.

"Soon?" Vera repeated.

"Soon, don't worry. I'll be in bed soon enough" I laugh as I watched the two walk off to the spare room while Vera nods at my response. Instead of heading back to my room like I should have, I head to the front door. I grab my car and house keys along with my purse. I step outside and lock the door behind me.

I get in my car and I drive. I drive to Cecilia's house. It takes about twenty-five minutes but once I get there I pull out a piece of paper and a sheaffer. I begin to write. The letter was long but the time I spent there wasn't. I just wrote what I was thinking.
