"And what do you want, Lauren?" Rhea looked at me as I studied the cafe menu in front of me at the counter.
"Can I- Just the fruit parfait, please." I asked the young man behind the counter as Rhea pulled out her wallet.
Then she put her fingers on the menu, studying it. "No peach. Anywhere near it." She told the worker, almost rudely and snappily. I touched her on the arm. She looked at me a little annoyed that I didn't even realise it had peach in it.
"Sorry, ladies." The man spoke up. "The fruit for the parfaits are pre made, we can't do that one without peach." He said.
Damn.
I started. "That's fine, I'll just get-"
"How hard is it to just cut up a couple bits of fruit without peach?" Rhea asked.
Alright... ever since we got in here she's been frustrated. The morning has been great. Surprising me while I was in the shower was great. She was great. She looked great. And so did a lot of other people think so that we've walked past...
The young boy looked a little unsure of himself. "Don't worry, Rhea. I'll just get the berry smoothie."
"That's not enough, Lauren. You need food." She looked at me, being very persistent.
I just wasn't that hungry of a morning time. I spoke to the young man. "The berry smoothie and-" I pointed to an oat slice. "And two of those please." And I looked to Rhea, who seemed more pleased. I guess.
Rhea paid and we waited at a small table for him to get back with the order, so we can get to the tent early for preparation for the show tonight. I was beyond eager for Rhea to see me, doing what I love doing.
I was about to ask her if she was excited, when my phone buzzed.
Mike 🤠: Dune jump Wednesday?
I smiled as I typed out my very excited yes!
"What's up?" Rhea must have gotten curious.
Mike 🤠: I got the bike for you too, what happened to yours?
I put my phone away before Rhea kept asking more questions, or came and had a look at my phone. Damnit. Screw Gunnar.
"I'm going to do this big dune jump with the guys on Wednesday." I tell her.
"Dune jump?" She asks, sitting up.
I nod. "I'll show you a picture." I found a picture of the huge sand mountains, explaining its a huge jump from one to the other.
"Lauren." Rhea said snappily at me, glaring too. "You can't be serious."
I was deadly serious. "We've been talking about it for months. I'm not missing out."
Rhea tweaked her jaw. "Then I'm coming, I'll decide on the day if you're doing it."
She'll decide on the day?
Um.
No.
"I'm doing it." I tell her. "You can't tell me what to-" Rheas hand came roughly on my knee beneath the table, cutting off what I was saying.
"Don't piss me off, Lauren." She grumbled it and didn't get to say much else because the young boy came with our order.
Eating our food on the way to the tent, I guided Rhea where to park and letting us through the security who I knew very well. Yet they still looked inside Rheas truck and asked for her ID. I guess it was fair, considering she's never been seen with me before.
