Doc then rolled up. "So I heard you want to quit working on the road today. Is that right?" He asked Lightning, looking him in the eyes.
"Yeah, that's right. Mizuna here doesn't lie." He said, looking Doc in the eyes, keeping his cool.
"Then let's race. You and me. 1 lap around what we call Willy's Butte around here." Doc said bluntly. "You win and you get to quit for the day. If not then you'll stop when I tell you to."
Mizuna's eyes went wide after hearing this offer. "You sure about this, Doc?" She asks just to double check. "Please tell me you're joking."
"No babe. It's fine." Lightning said as he had a cocky grin as he looked at her, then he looked back at Doc. "You can go 0-60 in what? 3.5 years?" He said, clearly mocking him. "You know what, old timer? Let's race." He says, not giving him a chance to respond.
Mizuna smirked. "Oh this outta be good." She says to both of them.
Doc looked at Mizuna. "Get him unhooked off Bessie and I'll gather the town for an audience."
Mizuna nods. "An audience too? Even better." She got off Lightning and once Doc rolled off, she spoke. "Don't go too hard on the old man, ok?" She teased with a small smirk, then walked to the back to unhook him.
Lightning smirked a bit. "No promises."
Mizuna looked at the way he was hooked up, observing it. "Yeah. You're sure hooked up good, but I got this." She got him unhooked easily due to her strength, then looked at everyone headed there, so she started walking ahead to follow everyone.
"Let me give you a ride." Lightning suggested with a smile.
Mizuna glanced back at him and gave him a playful grin before turning back around and walking ahead.
Lightning smirked a bit and rolled up behind her, nudging her behind her legs gently, making her fall back onto him.
Mizuna gasped in shock. "Oh f-!" She almost finished the word but she used her hands to further stabilize her fall. She climbed the rest of the way onto to his hood and conceded to him. "Touché. I want to be mad at that but I won't." She sighed, then looked back at him with a smile. "I give you credit for that."
Lightning chuckled. "I figured you wouldn't be."
Mizuna leaned down and kissed him on his hood. "You did good. You got me good." She laughed a bit. "Let's go."
Lightning smiles and follows the rest of them, actually being careful this time with Mizuna riding on him again for the first time since the accident.
Once they got there, Mizuna sighed once she saw it was a dirt track. "Have fun doing some more work on the road babe." She says as she hopped off him, going over where the rest of the town was at.
Lightning looked up at her. "I'll win. Just watch babe." He says, flashing her a confident grin. "And when I do, I'm dedicating it to you." He says in a flirty tone with a wink.
Mizuna just smirked a bit in response. "If you do, I'll be genuinely shocked, but best of luck babe." She says genuinely.
Lightning rolled up next to Doc, getting ready for the race after Sheriff got done calling out the rules. "Speed. I am speed. Float like a Cadillac, sting like a Beamer." He says confidently.
Mizuna went below the ledge everyone else was on and leaned against it, crossing her arms.
"Start! Your! Engines!" Sheriff commanded.
When Doc started his, it sputtered a bit but it started. Since he was old, it made sense.
When Lightning started his, he revved it up to the max to be a show off.
Luigi did the countdown.
When he said go, Lightning shot off like a bullet, his back tires leaving dust behind him.
Once he was out of sight, Doc sighed. "Seems like I got off to a poor start." He says sarcastically, then looks at Mizuna and Mater. "Mizuna, Mater. You 2 come with me." He requests.
Mizuna put her hands in her pant pockets and walks on one side of Doc, not questioning anything.
Mater rolls on the other side of him. "Uh, ok."
"Do you have your tow cable?" Doc asked.
"I always got my tow cable. Why?" Mater asked curiously.
"Oh. Just in case." Doc said in a bit of a mischievous tone.
Mizuna gives Doc a bit of a curious look. "Is he gonna mess up and crash?"
"Just wait and see, kid." Doc says.
Mizuna already knew, but she didn't say anything else.
They approached the cliff and Mizuna cringed, seeing Lightning in the cacti. She was the first to say something. "That cacti looks like it hurts babe!" She says with a laugh.
"Very funny, babe! Laugh it up!" Lightning sarcastically replied.
"Was that floating like a Cadillac? Or was that stinging like a Beamer? I'm confused!" Doc said mockingly. "That's what you get for trying to impress that girlfriend of yours. Have fun with the road tonight." He looked to Mater. "Have fun fishing, Mater." He rolled off back to everyone else.
Mater chuckled and chucked his tow cable down, hooking it to the back of Lightning's bumper. "It's like he knew you was gone crash." He says with a chuckle while reeling Lightning up.
Lightning sighs. "Gee thanks Mater." He says sarcastically.
"He did though, Mater. So you're not wrong." She laughs a bit.
Mater chuckled again. "Yous right, Mizuna."
Once Mater got Lightning back up and out of the cacti, he rolled off as well.
Mizuna looked at Lightning with a smug grin. "So what did we learn?"
"To not get cocky." Lightning says a little under his breath.
Mizuna hopped on Lightning's hood again, with her smug grin gone. "After we get back, I'll hook you back up to Bessie to do the road but I won't be able to stay around. I have to eat, but I'll be back to keep you company. Sound good?" She asked with a smile.
"Yeah, I guess." He says reluctantly.
"Don't worry. I'll at least make sure you're unhooked before we both sleep for the night." She reassures him.
