Spoiled meat; spoiled rotten; spoiled brat; spare
the rod and you spoil the child;
spoiled earth; spoilers on cars
that go very fast, racing like the wind -
not heeding red lights. Scarlet pimpernel; scarlet
letters; Scarlett O'Hara, who will always have Tara;
diminutive scar that can't be seen;
woman with red hair, who is born a witch;
Harvard crimson; scarlet gown: the lady in red. She walks
in the night, like beauty, and all that's best
of dark and bright meet in her aspect. Damaged
goods; broken goods; soiled goods; soiled hands,
loam-coloured hands: a gardener's hands, digging
deep in the earth, rooting up tares,
sowing seeds that will become
lovely lilies, unless they become cherry blossoms.
It's a quirk of nature, a property
of soil. Mad Magdalen goes on dirty toes.
Fallen leaves, falling in love, windfallen
fruits, falling down stairs, falling
from an aeroplane; fall as a season;
fall as a verb; fall as a description;
fall as a spiritual state of being. The fall of Eve,
falling down drunk, fallen hopelessly, fallen hard.
Fear of falling. Waterfalls. I've fallen
and can't get up. My skin's bruised, but
I've survived. It comes from having earth
in my chart.
