the story starts with the umbrella academy before things turned south (if there was ever even a point where it wasn't bad). before ben died, before five got stuck in the future, so things were relatively normal (?). the story will be just them as kids, starting at 12.
i try to stick to the canon, but with how little we see of their childhood and the fact that i have to fit it into my own story, i'm bound to get some things wrong (unfortunately).
