doe a deer

doe hooves hit ground softly, unassumingly,
Weak.
hide speckled with white dots, the way the light filters through the trees
illuminating the forest floor.
she's beautiful, but unassuming,
Weak.

big, black, doe eyes bore holes into those who meet them,
emptyheaded, or so it seems.
delicate forest baby,
too sweet to protect itself,
too dumb to protect itself.
too terrified of opposition,
she'll freeze at the first sign of danger,
danger in the woods, danger on the road, the danger in you.

doe hooves hit ground running, smarter than you'd think,
yielding to others, protecting herself, small and delicate.
sometimes violence isn't always the Strongest thing to do.
