Moon POV

Moon yawned as she trudged into the kitchen. Need coffee, her brain moaned.

A/N: k lets backtrack to about four hours before this, at about 5 am...(insert tape rewinding sound effects)

-About 4 hours earlier-

Moon had woken up to a rather light tapping against her window.

"Pst! It's me!" The mysterious dragon whisper-shouted.

...Kinkajou. (Though all Moon could see was a dark silhouette)

She quickly unlocked the window, and Kinkajou whirled into the room with an icy gust of wind that brought the smell of dead leaves and chilled Moon to the bone. She quickly shut the window and locked it while she asked Kinkajou, "So...what brings you here at 5 am?"

"Whew!" Kinkajou exclaimed first. "Ridiculously cold out there these days. Anyways, I was just here to apologize for flaking out on you."

"It's fine," Moon responded while hugging the RainWing. "But you didn't just come to apologize, did you? Otherwise you'd wait until morning."

"Yeah, I was also tailing Echino. He's been acting weird lately, always staring out into nothing and muttering things...something about a traumatizing blind date."

"..."

"So," Kinkajou continued. "You don't happen to have an extra cot lying around, do you?"

-Present-

Kinkajou had left again through the window about 30 minutes ago, promising to be back soon. Moon slowly made her way to the coffee machine as her brain tried (in vain) to remember how the machine worked. Finally she gave up and turned to find her mother at the table, her demeanor suggesting she'd been awake for at least a few hours.

"M...morning," Moon mumbled.

"Good morning," Secretkeeper replied as she sipped tea and scanned over the morning newspaper. "I already made you coffee. Here."

Moon's brain released a few happy endorphins as she hastily grabbed the coffee and downed half of it. "Thanks," Moon said.

Her mother nodded and went back to reading the news.

"By the way," she said. "I just had a talk with Winter."

"Oh?" Moon replied. She gulped down another mouthful of coffee.

A few moments passed as Secretkeeper stared at Moon (and she continued imbibing her coffee).

"...Wait..."

Secretkeeper sighed. "I thought you'd be more awake," she muttered.

Moon stammered out a few apologies/incoherent words/excuses about Winter and the reason for his presence before her mother held up a talon.

"Save it. By the way," her mother then raised her voice. "Winter! You should come out before you suffocate in there! (Moon, you should really consider getting a window for that room.)"

Winter shuffled into view a minute or two later, claws clacking against the floor. "Morning," he muttered to Moon.

Then he slumped onto the sofa and stared at nothing in particular.
