Moon POV

It was Sunday afternoon, and Moon ate her sandwich listlessly while the TV forecaster babbled in the background.

The sandwich consisted of two slices of bread, ham between them, and a dash of salt and pepper.

Frankly it tasted terrible, but Moon didn't care.

Again, the tick-tock of the clock resounded throughout the room.

Again, her world was monotone.

Again, she was alone.

And again, she was eating a sandwich for lunch.

Great.

Then the front door's doorknob jiggled, and the door opened to reveal Winter.

Suddenly her sandwich tasted good again, and the world bloomed with colors again, like it did around Carnelian and Kinkajou. But she pretended all was normal. "Hi, you're back," she greeted Winter. "How was-"

Then she realized Winter had collapsed on the floor.

Moon quickly cast aside her sandwich and reached for Winter to help him up. Then she realized her talons were slightly greasy from the bread, but this wasn't the time to think about that.

She quickly half dragged, half hoisted Winter to the sofa and quickly grabbed a cup and filled it with water.

It wasn't exactly that she could just pour the water down his throat, though.

Uh, I think I had some smelling salts somewhere?? Wait, should I check his pulse first to make sure he's fine? What if he has something stuck in his airway for some reason? I don't have to do do CPR, do I?

Which made her blush, but THIS WAS HARDLY THE TIME TO BE THINKING OF THAT.

That being said, however, although Winter looked like he was in pain, there weren't any external injuries and his breathing seemed steady.

Moon took a deep breath or two. Maybe I should just let him sleep.

Besides, she was glad for company, even though the company was passed out at the moment.

All was colorful again, after all.

About an hour passed, during which Moon did her best to cool down Winter (who had a fever).

She basically only had water, but IceWings were usually frigid enough that pouring a bit of water on Winter froze it within a minute or so, some of which she then pried off and lay on his forehead in a slightly damp towel.

He occasionally mumbled something about circles and the tundra and narwhals, among various other things with a rather contorted expression on his face resembling pain and something else...

...fear?

Moon frowned. As far as she knew, Winter had never really been afraid before...apart from the times he'd remembered she was a mindreader.

...Welp, time for drastic measures. Plus Moon was kind of curious about what Winter was hiding anyways.

The NightWing slowly removed the towel, placed her claw on Winter's forehead, and concentrated.

At first nothing more than blurry words and bits of pictures.

Then clarity.

Slowly going through Winter's buried thoughts, Moon realized.
