My blood is getting stronger, I can just feel it. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw how my eyes were glowing bright yellow and my fangs were nearly poking out of my mouth. I really feel like letting it out, but I don't want whatever happened last time to happen again. I did lots of damage.
The time was seven-thirty, nearly dinnertime. I rushed downstairs and spotted Mom and Chris watching the evening news.
"Guys, what do I do?" I asked, making my way towards the settee. "Look at me."
"Your blood is strong, try to relax, Charlie," Chris said. "Or else... like last time..."
Mom shook her head. "No. It's better to let it out."
I turned to her in surprise. "No, Mom. Chris is right. I don't trust myself either. I... I might go berserk again."
"Not if we're all here," Mom added. "Come on, Charlie. We're all here for you today."
I gulped and made my way upstairs to change since I didn't wanna ruin my outfit. I put on my loosest shirt and pants before making my way downstairs, only transforming once I reached the living room. I looked around and realised how everyone seemed relaxed.
Charlene smirked and looked down at her clothes before transforming as well. So did Mom and Chris.
Mom came to me and patted my head. "Come on, Charlie. Don't look so scared. We're all here with you."
Chris grinned, still looking goofy though he was in werewolf form. "Wanna go hunting? I mean... the full moon is nearing, and all of us are already... suited up. Why not?"
For some reason, that felt like a really good idea. I readily nodded my head, even pointing at the backdoor. In the end, the plan was confirmed. But all of us had to get out of our regular clothes first, bringing them on the go instead.***
I yawned as descended the stairs. It was Friday and the stupid hearing was on Monday. I wish we could just skip it, but apparently, that would make things worse.
Especially for Charles, by the looks of it. He reawakened our family group, which the four of us were still surprisingly in, just to remind us of it. I cringed a little as I spotted the take care at the end of his string of words, even letting out a gag as I turned my phone off before stuffing it into my pocket.
"What's for breakfast?" I asked as soon as I entered the dining room.
"Eggs, bacon, and strips of ham," Mom said, setting a dish down on the table before pulling a chair to sit down. "We need the extra meat to satisfy a little craving."
"I also packed some garlic cheese ham and sausage sandwiches for you guys," Charlene added, seating herself down as well. "With a slightly bigger helping of garlic butter for taste."
My mouth was already watering at the thought of all that. I nodded with a smile and sat down beside Chris before devouring whatever was on my plate.
The doorbell suddenly rang, much to our dismay.
"Don't answer it," Chris warned.
The doorbell rang more persistently.
"Come on, let us eat in peace!" Mom groaned as she got up.
I stopped her and got up instead. "It's fine, I'll get it."
Mom sat down and watched as I left the room, making a beeline straight for the front door. I opened the front door and stared at Charles as he stood there with yet another Posiden Coffee bag.
"You again?" I groaned. "Why?"
Charles shrugged. "None of you replied to my text last night, so I decided to just drop by and—"
"Thank us, yeah yeah, we know that," I sighed, shifting my legs slightly. "Anyway, thanks for the coffee. You're too kind, but we could've just ordered delivery."
Charles handed it to me without a word. "They're your favourites."
"Thanks, I appreciate that," I nodded. "What do you want from us anyway? I literally don't see the point of you coming all the way with snacks each time." I turned away as I mumbled, "Not after disowning us, at least."
"I just don't want you guys to testify against the divorce," Charles sighed. "Because your mother... she still disagreed with it, even at our last consultation."
I shook my head. "Believe me, she anything but misses you at this point."
"She's right, Charles," I turned around to see Mom walk towards us. "I want this divorce just as much as you do. Because I don't see how we can still go on being a family."
Charles stared at her in shock. "You do?"
Mom frowned. "You despise us, Charles. You think you're doing a good job hiding it, but that isn't true. Even now, you think you seem nice coming in here with snacks. It's obvious that we still disgust you, you still think we're monsters."
I couldn't help but feel a little enraged when remembering how Mom had to beg him to not apply for the divorce while he kept calling her a monster. But it was done now, even Mom didn't want to stop it at this point.
"I just came to check on you," Charles murmured. "Also because... I just wanted to make sure there won't be any threats."
"Threats?" I scoffed at him. "What threats?"
"You do know that your eyes are glowing yellow now, right?" Charles added.
Mom pulled my shoulder and took a close look at my face. "Charlie, you should calm down."
"How can I with this standing in our doorway?" I snapped.
"Charlie," Mom said pushing me towards the couch and seating me down. "Here, sit down for a moment."
I begrudgingly did and closed my eyes as I took a deep breath. Mom turned back to Charles and pointed out of the door.
"You should leave," Mom said. "You're stressing my daughter. You interrupted our breakfast, you're spoiling our day. We'll see each other on Monday, don't come back till then. You got that?"
He nodded and frantically ran off. I sighed and got up, the Posiden bag still in my hand. Why does he even wanna come here if he's that scared of us? Just wait till the hearing, I'll strongly say that I don't want anything to do with him. Even child support only goes for a few more years for me, that is if he's actually willing to pay, or if Mom is willing to accept his money. I don't think she would, especially given the way he reacted upon finding out we're werewolves.
"Charlie, go finish your breakfast," Mom said, closing the front door before leading me towards the dining room. "Leave that bag here, we'll drink it later."
I nodded and followed Mom to the dining table. My breakfast was mostly untouched, with just a few bites taken from the ham.
"What did he want this time?" Chris groaned.
"He wanted to make sure that there were no threats," I grumbled. "Just because we seem menacing to him, he thinks we truly are a menace."
"Well, he is a menace to our family," Mom said. "He's been spoiling our mornings, twice a week!"
Chris looked away, the definition of annoyed, but asked. "Did he at least bring us some Posiden?"
"He did," I said, chomping my breakfast. "It's in the hall."
"Well, at least there's coffee," Charlene added. She put a hand on my shoulder. "Charlie, don't get too worked up."
"He spoiled my morning," I complained. "And he thinks we're a threat."
"So... showing up every time to remind of the hearing is not threatening?" Chris stated. "I mean, just because he brings in food, that doesn't mean it's not a threat, right?"
"He's right," I nodded at him. "We can actually mention this in court. We might even receive protection from him."
"Yeah, they might actually grant us a restraining order," Charlene added in agreement.
Mom sighed. "Well, at this point, it seems as if we do actually need one."
We so do...
