Charles POV again
It was strange, holding onto a werewolf as it ran. Charlie didn't in the least seem to mind my weight as she swiftly ran as far from the place as she could. We soon came to a clearing, which turned out to be the main road.
"We are far from there," Charlotte said, stopping. "You can get off now. We should be safe."
I did and looked around. "We're still relatively far from home."
"Not really far from ours," Charlotte said, her voice sounding horrible. "We can go on foot."
I realised that she was right. Her house was less than a kilometre away. She seemed excited too, wagging her tail like an actual wolf, even howling happily.
I stunned when her howl was responded by a chorus of others just like hers. Charlotte gasped and galloped over at the sound. I stayed behind, what if these friends of hers were even worse monsters? I bet she's only sparing me now because I'm her father.
"Guys! Guys, I'm here!" Charlotte exclaimed, waving her arms.
Three monstrous beasts came over and howled, Charlotte joining in as well. As soon as they were near enough, they engulfed her in a hug, to which she happily returned, her tail still wagging wildly. Is she friends with them?
"Charlie, what happened to you?" One of the beasts asked, sounding strangely concerned. "Where did you go?"
"They ambushed me just after I saw Luna off," Charlotte said gruffly. "And then I woke up in some warehouse, with Charles." She pointed at me. It feels strange to hear her calling me by name.
The beasts turned to me. I took a step back as they came to me, growling menacingly.
"Charles, what is this?!" Another one of the, growled. It was Christine, I'm sure. "You dare take my daughter just because of the stupid hearing tomorrow?"
"Forget the divorce, I'm ending you right now," another, even worse voice, said.
To my horror, all three of them started charging towards me.
"Guys, stop," Charlotte growled, stepping before them. "It wasn't Charles."
They seemed to have heard her out, stopping in their tracks as they looked at her.
"It was some mafia boss, whose son he fired some time ago," Charlotte went on. "He was kidnapped too."
One of the werewolves slowly came towards me. "Was it that Freddy guy?" It was Christine. She was the only one I spoke to about Freddy Thomas, way back before I found out about the fact that they were beasts disguised as humans.
I nodded quickly, trying to not back away from her. "It was. He thinks I was the one who blew up his warehouse."
Christine relaxed. "I know it wasn't you. You were with us at the time."
"He was?" Charlotte said in surprise.
"It was during one of the counselling sessions, Charlie," the other one, I'm assuming Charlene, said. "You were with me and Chris."
Oh yeah, Christine told me that she sent the kids to the mall during the last session.
Christine turned to Charlotte with a scowl. "Charlie, bring him to our home. We'll take care of this." She turned to me. "I know that the sight of us makes your skin crawl, but it's better if you stay with Charlie until we settle everything."
She didn't wait for a response as she turned back to the rest and motioned for them to follow her. The two of them glared me, Chris even growling, before going after Christie like wild animals. Charlotte sighed and turned to me.
"Let's go," Charlie said. "Our house is this way."

We entered through the back door and made our way inside. They had left the lights on, making it seem like they were still home to anyone on the outside.
"You want anything to eat?" Charlotte asked, making a beeline for the fridge. "The last I ate was breakfast and now I'm hungry like the wolf."
I'm just hoping she doesn't think of me as a meal. I quietly sat down at the kitchen table as she rummaged in the fridge, only her tail visible from where I'm at. She eventually pulled out a container of leftover meatballs and went over to the air fryer, placing the container beside it before going to the sink for a bowl.
"You want some?" Charlotte turned to look at me, her nose twitching slightly. I just shook my head. She grunted in reply and dumped the entire thing into a ceramic bowl before returning to the air fryer, placing the bowl inside it, then turning it on.
"So... you can't turn back into a human?" I decided to say when she joined me at the table again.
Charlotte shook her head. "Full moon. We're stuck like this till sunrise."
I nodded slowly. "Do you guys... devour humans?"
"Do we look like cannibals to you?" Charlotte countered angrily.
"Yes?"
Charlotte growled and banged her fist, or was it paw, against the table, jolting me along with it. She looked like she was about to attack me, but the air fryer started beeping, gaining her attention. Charlotte made her way towards it and pulled the bowl out before making her way back to the table. She ate started eating it, gobbling it up like an animal, then put the bowl back in the sink. She turned the tap on and lapped up water like a dog before turning to me, her ear twitching slightly.
"You sure you don't want anything to eat?" She growled at me.
My stomach grumbled pleadingly, but I shook my head. "Nope, I'm good."
Charlotte quietly made her way out of the kitchen. I decided to go after her since... well, she is my hostess still. A rather beastly hostess, but this is still her house. The werewolf rummaged underneath the slick coffee table surface and pulled out a pack of cookie sandwiches and a jar of love letters. She handed them to me and grabbed her pink bottle, not bothering with the straw as she unscrewed the entire thing open and finished like two litres of water in one go.
"My throat still feels weird because of that smoke," Charlotte hoarsely said and sat down on the settee. "Do you think a nap would help?"
"I... I don't know," I admitted, settling myself down on the loveseat with a sigh. "I'm really sorry this happened."
Charlotte stopped arranging cushions against the armrest and turned to look at me, her wolf-like face looking strangely human as she smirked. "It wasn't your fault, though it partially was. You actually did the right thing by firing that weirdo's son. But you didn't expect it to backfire."
I put an arm around the jar of love letters to keep it from falling. "Why did the guy have to work in my company when his father was a literal mafia boss? He could've just worked under his father instead. It would've turned out a lot easier, even for Freddy."
"That guy's a loon," Charlotte yawned, stretching her arms back as she laid down on the settee. "Well, you just sit tight, eat some of biscuits and love letters. I'll just have a short nap. Wake me up if anything happens."
With that, she turned to the other side and curled into a foetal position. She still slept like that, never changed one bit though she was this monstrous creature.
The jar of love letters escaped my grasp and fell to the ground, making a rattling sound. I bent down to pick it up and turned to Charlie, hoping the sound didn't wake her. She was sound asleep, even snoring. Christie always said she got that habit from me...
There was a throw blanket folded over the backrest of the settee. I picked it up and pulled it over Charlie, seeing how the night was growing colder, and she curled into the smallest ball she can become. She instantly relaxed and pulled the blanket to her shoulder as she continued sleeping.
I couldn't help but smile at her as I sat back down on the loveseat. My stomach was still grumbling so I decided to give in and nibble on some of the snacks that Charlie gave me.
