Making Breakfast

I looked around to confirm that Mom and Dad were nowhere about and picked up the remote, pausing the episode of Marry My Friend that we were watching.
"Why?" Chris asked, confused.
"What's your big idea?" I asked.
Chris cocked his head in surprise. "What do you mean?"
"You said you wanted to test Dad about something, right?" I said.
Charlene nodded and turned to Chris as well. "Yeah, I remember you mentioned that. What are you planning to do?"
Chris's confused face slowly morphed into smirk. "Oh, that. Yeah. I'm gonna do it in the morning."
"What are you planning to do?" I sighed.
"I don't wanna do it now, my clothes are too small for that," Chris said.
Instantly, I knew what he was meaning to do. And by the look on Charlene's face, I knew she did as well.
"Chris..." Charlene sighed.
"What, it's a good idea," Chris pointed out. "Didn't he say that he would try? Let's just see how he reacts."
I frowned and shook my head. "I don't like where this is going..."
Chris looked at me. "So, what? You want us to feel like we're walking on eggshells again? You've never been there, but Char, Mom, and I have been through it for years. It's about time it changed."
Well, he has a point. I turned to look at Charlene, and she shrugged.
"He's right, it felt horrible to go about like that," Charlene added. "Wolfie would be itching to get out, but I just can't let her. Even when I'm at home."
Chris turned to me and pointed a hand at her. I sighed and shrugged. "Sure, knock yourself out."
I picked up the remote again and pressed the button to resume the series. I looked at Chris for a moment, then turned back to the screen. I think I better wake up early tomorrow.

I took a trip to the bathroom before going downstairs to the living room. I was the first to wake up, which is good, so I sat myself down on a couch with my tablet to type out a story in the meantime. Chris made it seem like he was gonna wake up early for that test of his, but it seems like he's gonna sleep in instead.
So I started typing when I heard someone down the stairs. I turned around to see Dad coming down instead. "Nuts..." I muttered under my breath.
"Oh, hey Cupcake," he greeted as he came down, his hair still a mess. "You're up early."
I shrugged. "Couldn't sleep and it's already morning so I decided to just wake up."
"Oh, yeah, same," Dad said, coming over to sit down as well. "And you're writing this early?"
"I have some ideas," I said. "Also, is anyone else awake?"
Dad shook his head. "Nah, I don't think so. Even your mother is still asleep."
I nodded. It's true, Mom tends to sleep in during the weekends. It's usually Dad who starts on breakfast before we join in as well. And I'm sure he's planning to do that now since... well, he got up and started to make a beeline for the kitchen. I'm not sure if I should follow along. Feels strange to do so, feels wrong to not.
I sighed and closed my tablet, placed it down on the coffee table, then made my way to the kitchen as well. I wonder what he's planning on making this time...

I placed a cheese slice between the garlic-coated bread and placed it in the sandwich press before turning it on. I turned to look at Dad and spotted him beating an egg before pouring it onto the skillet. Then, I turned to the kitchen's entryway to see if Chris was up to his plan yet.
"The others aren't up yet?" I turned to Dad again when he spoke.
I shrugged. "I'm not sure..."
I shook my head and looked at the sandwich press. The light had turned off, which signalled that it was done. I turned the switch off and opened it, pulling out the sandwiches before moving on to place another batch.
"When you said you wouldn't mind seeing us in our werewolf forms, did you really mean it?" I asked as I tore open a slice of cheese to put in the sandwich. I turned to look at Dad and saw that he stopped short as he beat his egg. "Did you?"
Dad sighed. "It would be a little difficult, but I'm still gonna try. After all, it's just you guys. What else do I need?"
I nodded. "Okay..." I sighed as I placed the sandwich in the press before moving on to another. "I was just thinking about what we would do during the next full moon. It's less than a month away."
"When is it?" Dad asked, flipping the egg he was frying.
"In like three weeks," I said. "But our powers would start getting stronger when the moon starts waxing, which would be after next week."
"Okay. I'll brace myself for that."
I couldn't help but snort at that. But where is this Chris? Waiting him like this is only resulting in more anxiety. Can we just get this over with already?
Charlene eventually staggered in and looked at us in surprise. "Oh, you guys have already started."
"Yeah," I said. "Anyone else awake yet?"
"Yeah, I saw Mom going to the bathroom upstairs," Charlene frowned before continuing. "But Chris is nowhere to be seen." She gave me a knowing look.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "We're almost done with breakfast."
"You wanna start on the hot cocoa?" Dad piped up. "I'm done with the eggs."
"What are we eating again?" Charlene asked as she made her way to the sink to get cups. "I see that there's eggs, Charlie is making sandwiches. What else?"
"The hot cocoa," I added.
Charlene shrugged, glancing at me as she washed the cups. "Sure. Sounds like a nice and hearty breakfast."
"Yeah, it does," I smiled as I pressed the sandwiches again. "By the way... do we still have... lizard meat?"
Dad groaned, beating another egg. "Come on, it sounds more disgusting when you describe it like that."
"How else would one describe it?" I frowned.
"Monitor lizard meat?" Dad suggested. "It doesn't sound as bad as lizard meat. I imagine the smaller ones."
"Like they're any better," Charlene snorted. "But yeah, we still have two packages."
I smirked. "Should we do a barbecue sometime?" I grinned as I prepared one more sandwich. "We had one the other day, right?"
"Oh yeah, that was crocodile, wasn't it?" Charlene smirked, still washing cups.
Dad shook his head. "You guys are eating some really exotic stuff."
"That croc was invading a primary school," I pointed out. "Just because it's by the river, it snuck into the monsoon drain and crawled right into the canteen. It hit the news, especially since said crocodile was never caught."
"Until we did, that is," Charlene added, bringing the cups over to the counter to make the cocoa. "It's for the safety of those children."
"Well, I guess that's fine, then," Dad finally said, pouring the last egg onto the skillet. "I'm almost done. What about you guys?"
I opened the press and took out sandwiches before adding the last one. "One more sandwich."
"Same here," Charlene said, filling up each cup with boiling hot water before stirring it.
