Oh, Snap!

The air turned considerably darker when Luna walked in. She was dressed in black and blue corset dress, staying true to her gothic fashion, and incorporated some blue glitter eyeshadow into her makeup. There's nothing wrong with her being a goth, just that everything else was wrong about her. It's actually surprising, goth people are usually very nice. Just not this one, I guess.
"Luna!" Kayla cheerfully greeted as she engulfed her in a hug. "So glad you came!"
Luna awkwardly smiled as she patted her back, her chin resting on Kayla's shoulder. "Happy Birthday."
Kayla chuckled and pulled away, a smile on her face.
And then he gaze fell on me. I didn't know what to do, so I just smiled. She's up to something sinister, isn't she...
"Hey, guys," Luna greeted, walking past Kayla and coming over to us. It's a good thing that Priscilla occupied the only seat beside mine so Luna had no choice but to sit with Lydia and Barbara instead. "How are you doing?"
"Good?" I gulped. Alright, that sounded terrible. I quickly cleared my throat. "We're good," I said, much clearer this time. "What about you?"
Luna nodded. "Yeah, I'm good."
"Yeah, I'm gonna get some snacks," I said, getting up. I'm not gonna sit here much now that she's here.
I ran off to the snack table and grabbed a paper plate. Everything was covered to keep out the flies, an extremely good idea, and I helped myself to each one. Kayla walked past me, giggling as she entered a passageway. Wonder what she's planning. Party games, maybe?
Wait...
I stilled as I imagined playing party games with these people, especially Luna. With so little people too. Wait, I thought she had invited her classmates? But it's just us?
I made my way back to the living area with a plateful of snacks and a cup of soda and sat down beside Priscilla again.
"Are there other guests?" I asked, placing the cup down on the coffee table before tossing my head slightly to push my hair away.
Priscilla shrugged. "Not sure. Kayla ran off to get a deck of Snap."
Snap?! Oh, snap! We're playing Snap? Okay, I love that game, but darn are we gonna have sore hands. Luna had a smirk on her face too, I'm not sure if she's smirking because she's delighted we're playing this game, or delighted that she can use it as a reason to abuse me.
Kayla eventually returned with the deck of cards and urged us to sit on the ground to play.
"Are we the only guests for tonight?" I decided to ask.
Kayla shrugged. "I guess. You guys are the only ones who RSVP-ed, and the only ones who rendezvoused here too. I actually invited all my classmates.
Darn, poor Kayla. I guess it's a good thing that I showed up anyway. Luna or no Luna, I'm here for Kayla. I looked at her as she gleefully started reshuffling the deck of cars before splitting it amongst the six of us. We got little cards, especially for a game of Snap, but okay. I started first since I sat in the furthest corner. Then the rest placed cards in the centre, the pile becoming higher and higher each turn.
"Snap!" Priscilla yelled as she slapped her hand on the pile and dragged it towards her.
The game continued, with her having the thickest stack. Mine was wearing thin, but we still went on. With only one card left, I declared Snap and claimed the pile.
Lydia shrugged when she placed her last card. "Well, I'm out."
Barbara grinned and claimed the stack of cards next. Then, Kayla. My cards were going away too, but my hand still hurts from slapping the pile. I placed my last card on the stack and smirked.
"Welcome to the club," Lydia grinned.
The game went on, and eventually, Luna got the stack. She gleefully evened the cards as she held it under the cards she was still holding. Eventually, Barbara was out too. Kayla and Luna were the only ones playing now.
And it was clear that Luna was winning, seeing how her stack was way thicker.
"Yeah, I need to go to the toilet," Barbara said, getting up.
"Down the hall, first door on your left," Kayla said, pointing to the passage beside the snack table without looking away from the cards.
Barbara nodded. "Aight."
I turned back to the game and realised how Luna was actually winning. Kayla grinned as she made as if she wanted to take the pile of cards, eventually declaring Snap before dragging it towards her. I smirked to myself and took my phone out to update the rest.

Me: Playing Snap
Chris: Fun
Char: Did you win?
Me: Nah
Me: First one to lose
Me: Also we are the only guests here
Chris: Only you?
Chris: And Loony?!

I snorted to myself.

Me: Nah
Me: There are six of us
Me: Including the birthday girl
Char: And her parents?
Me: They aren't home
Char: What?!
Char: So it's just you guys loitering around like that?!
Char: Is the door locked?

I turned to see the front door and sighed in relief when seeing that it was even connected with the chain.

Me: Yeah, it's locked
Mom: Good
Mom: Stay safe ok
Mom: How is the party
Mom: Did Loony do anything

I chuckled at her message and proceeded to type out a reply.

Me: Nah
Me: She's still playing
Me: And it seems like she's winning
Dad: Let her
Dad: So long as she doesn't bother you
Me: Yeah...

It's still kinda odd to have Dad acting like nothing's up, but doesn't feel even an ounce weird all the same. The three of us are still keeping a close eye on him just in case, seeing how he still did put Mom through all of that. But something tells me that we're actually worried for nothing. After all, he broke down too when he begged Mom.
But still, though. Chris says he has a plan. I'm not sure what the plan is though. Maybe it's time I keep an eye on Chris instead. His bright ideas usually turn out to be... not so bright sometimes...
I stuffed my phone back into my sling bag and turned back to the game. Kayla actually won the game, but Luna still wore a smile on her face. Well, glad to see that she isn't being a sourpuss tonight. She actually looks like she's enjoying herself.
Well, maybe I'm worrying for nothing as well...
Kayla put the cards away and got up. "It's cake time!"
"Hey, you didn't turn up the music?" Priscilla asked. "We should have some music!"
Kayla gasped. "Oh yeah, I forgot to turn the music on. I was meaning to do it before you guys arrived, but I guess I just forgot. Let me do it now."
"And maybe we should get the cake instead while you sit here," Lydia added, grinning. "Kay, it's your birthday and you want to bring the cake. You just stay here, turned the music on or... whatever. We'll do it." She grabbed my arm. "Right, Charlotte?"
I nodded. "Absolutely."
Just as soon as I find out where the kitchen is, that is. But it seems like Lydia knows her way around pretty well.
