Little talks | Of the monsters and men.

𝓣he sound of thunder and rain kept Arabella awake, scared that the hurricane could harm her. It was past midnight, everyone was asleep, including Sarah, but the brunette could only envy her ease in resting.

Every hit that the drops made on the windows, every artifact or decoration that broke in the patio, and all those loud sounds— made it difficult for the brunette to feel calm or safe.

Now, she was wearing pajamas and socks that her best friend had lent her, lying next to her, but no matter how much she tried to close her eyes and forget everything, Arabella couldn't help cursing under her breath that she hadn't taken even one pill of her father's medication.

She got out of bed and searched carefully through her friend's room in the darkness, but Sarah didn't have any medicine to help her— and Arabella was not going to wake her from her sleep, just because of her fear of the hurricane.

She decided to go down to the kitchen, with the flash of her cell phone—— surreptitiously, she searched through the drawers and shelves.

"What are you looking for?" A man's voice takes her by surprise, making her jump a little when the light turns on.

'Nothing', the girl whispers, closing the drawer, turning to see who it was— but her heart only began to beat faster when she saw that it was Rafe, "Can't sleep?" The boy asks, still not believing what she said to him.
The girl shakes her head, pulling out a glass of water.

"Are you scared of the hurricane?" He asks again, bringing a smile to his lips, but the girl gave him a dirty look and denied with her head. She was afraid, and he knew her, he knew how anxious and fearful she got.

But Rafe snorts, knowing he wasn't going to get the girl to talk to him,
"Arabella—" He thinks twice before speaking, "Why are you ignoring me?" He asks, stupidly,
he knew very well why the brunette ignored him,
he knew how difficult for her would be to talk to him, after everything

"I'm not ignoring you," The girl says without looking into his eyes, while drinking some water, "Don't care to lie to me. I know you are." The boy answers by passing his tongue over his teeth, but the girl raised her shoulders and remained silent.

Everything was so different now, a year ago they probably would have stayed together the rest of the night— talk about what was happening to them; Arabella would have seek for his company when she couldn't sleep, and Rafe would have stayed by her side until she managed to calm down.

Yet, now, they were just staring each other, both maintaining silence, waiting for the other to say something, say all those unspoken thoughts that have been kept for months.

But the lights went out— and suddenly, the entire kitchen fell into darkness, Bella felt the thunder stronger than she had before, as the only light that shone on her was that of the moon, but she couldn't see anything.

"Rafael?" She asks, without hearing the boy speak, "I'm here." He responds after seconds, placing his hand down her back,—— she would've pushed it away, but knowing he was near made her feel safe, and that's when she realized that she still found the same refuge in him,

'Fucking Agatha' The boy mutters, turning the switch on and off, but the light still didn't work.
"The power went out" He speaks, this time so that the girl can hear him,— they both turned on the flash on their phone.

"It's late," the girl says, pouring a little more water into her glass, distancing herself from him while Rafe tried to guess what she meant by that,
"You should go to sleep." She clarifies, she was asking him to leave.
