Taking his hand, Jason swiped the contents of Travis' dressing table on to the ground, taking pleasure in watching his favourite cologne bottle smash and the contents begin soaking in to his carpet.

Next he pulled open the drawers and tipped them in to a pile on the floor before reaching for his duvet and heaving it from his bed

"Fuck you loser!" he roared as he pulled a John Mayer poster from the wall and then ripped it in half. He was in such a blind rage that he didn't hear his mother's panicked voice calling his name or her footsteps as she ran up the stairs in search of him

Dropping down on to the now bare bed Jason rested his head in his hands and fought the burn of tears.

"Oh my God Jason, what have you done in here?" Karen asked as she made her way through the carnage and dropped down next to her son

"I hate him mom"

"What's going on Jase? Talk to me"

"Taylor is going to dump me, I just know she is"

She had called him earlier asking to talk with him, her tone of voice telling him he was not going to be on the receiving end of good news.

"But why darling? I thought things were going so well, you two have been inseperable"

"Why the fuck do you think?!" he roared again "Why the fuck do I lose everyone I care about? It's him it's always fuckin him. He found out we were dating and he's been messing with her head ever since, she thinks he's this great guy, totally misunderstood, she doesn't know him, not like we do but she won't listen to me"

Karen sighed, knowing the effect her eldest son had on the opposite sex, although it killed her to acknowledge it he was his father's son. Tall, chocolate brown hair and emerald green eyes. If Taylor had fallen  for his 'charms' she knew she wouldn't give him up, not even when he had broken her heart and moved on.

If she was going to protect her son and his budding romance she was going to have to do it via Travis and that would be a challenge  because their fragile relationship had never been as close to shattering completely as it was now.

"What's going on between you and Taylor?"

Travis turned on the kitchen light and found his mother sitting alone at the table.

"Wow, he's going via you now is he? Tough guy" Travis shook his head bitterly as he walked past his mother and stood with his back to the refrigerator looking down at her and trying to read her face.

She looked everywhere but at him and for a second he had the urge to go over to her, grab her face and make her look at him, really look at him, the way she looked at Jason but he didn't, instead he remained where he was and waited to hear how he had disappointed her this time

"She's your brothers girlfriend Travis"

"No she's not"

"They are dating"

"She's nobodies property mom, she can make her own decisions" for a second Karen's gaze met her eldest sons and she felt a deep longing for the child that he had been, but just as quickly she dropped her gaze to the table and buried any feelings she may have for the 21 year old man standing in front of her

"And what has she decided Travis?" She could barely bring herself to say his name, he knew it and it killed him but his face remained impartial

"That's for her to say not me"
