Taylor sat at her table in the Northern Soul Coffee Cafe and sipped at her latte, against her better judgment she was meeting Jason
Yes she had said it was a one night only arrangement but when he'd called her that morning, so excited, so filled with hope she had struggled to come up with a decent reason to say no.
Last night had been so much better than she had imagined it could be and although she had to cut it short due to her overprotective father she had enjoyed herself more than she had enjoyed herself with any guy in a long time.
Closing her eyes she thought back to the music that had filtered down the stairs and into her heart.
Jason had sworn his brother was a self destructive manwhore, but surely anyone capable of making music the way he did had something more to them, something that deserved to be discovered and treasured.
As Taylor opened her eyes she was immediately struck by the figure that had appeared as if by magic at table 14.
Travis...
His hair was held back by a black hair band and he wore a plain black t-shirt and black shorts. His outfit was understated but screamed 'take me to bed' and she was sure she had never ever seen anything as sexy as a 6'4 man wearing a hair band.
Staring into her coffee Taylor decided she was just going to ignore him, he had made his position blatently clear yesterday.
He was not interested in a high school girl...fine, Jason was more than interested and although Taylor couldn't convince herself she felt for him even half of what he claimed to feel for her it was nice to have someone want her. To spend time on her, to compliment and flatter her.
It had been 6 months since her last relationship ended and although it hadn't been perfect it had been her first relationship and recovery from it hadn't come easily
She probably didn't need the trouble that came with an older man but God be damned if she could tear her eyes away from him.
Looking up at Travis again she was surprised to find him staring directly at her and as she raised her eyebrows in surprise he didn't look down or away, in fact he just struggled at being caught out and that ignited enough hope in Taylor for her to grab her cup and purse and to head over to table 14 and the man that sat at it.
"You know, for a guy that doesn't mess with high school girls, you sure do spend a lot of time looking at them"
Taylor dropped her coffee down on to his table and eased in to the seat opposite the object of her affection.
She swollowed down her nerves as best she could and forced the most confident version of herself to take the reigns
Travis bit back a smile before stirring his coffee and taking his time to answer
"You're having a terrible hair day, I was just wondering whether to let you know about it or not"
"Oh my God, you are such a bad liar, I don't have bad hair days, my hair always looks good" she flipped her blond locks over one shoulder and pouted at him as if to prove a point
"Such confidence"
Running her fingers through her hair, Taylor stared him down
"And what's not to be confident about?"
Travis' eyes ran from her face down her throat to her her chest and then back up to her eyes, he didn't answer her question, the slight shrug of his shoulders telling her everything she needed to know
"So, Travis From Table 14, about that rule you had..." Taylor ran a finger nail up the outside of her coffee cup whilst maintaining the most extreme eye contact she had ever experienced in her life
"Tell me again, which college is it that you attend?"
"You know I don't" Taylor pouted
"Then the rule still applies" Travis took a long sip of his black coffee and then set it down and waited for the forthcoming protest
"I'm 18, not 8, you do know that don't you?, I mean give us a month or two of dating and then maybe an extra month until you are absolutely head over heels in love with me and then perhaps another month or two for me to feel the same way about you we would be the modern day Romeo and Juliet by my 19th birthday"
Travis couldn't hold back the chuckle that was bubbling up in his chest
"You have it all planned out don't you?"
Sipping her coffee slowly, Taylor set her cup down and then reached over and placed her small hand over Travis' much larger one
"Just say yes and leave the rest to me"
Pulling his hand away Travis ran it through his hair before returning it to the table and beginning to drum out a haphazard beat.
"Since you made the effort to come over here and put yourself on the line even though I had already shut you down once before and considering you asked so nicely, the answer is... still no. So why don't you head home and do your homework like a good little girl and I will think about maybe giving you a call once you graduate"
Taylor felt the sting of hurt once more but refused to surrender like the teenage girl he assumed she was so she picked up her coffee cup and her purse and lifted herself from her seat.
"Or maybe you could sit there on your own with your wooden friend..." she dropped her eyes knowingly to his crotch
"And watch me whilst I enjoy a date with a hella good lookin high-school boy" winking, Taylor turned away and then turned back to be met with a dark look she could have watched all day
"Enjoy the view Travis from table 14" and with that she walked away from him, her hips swinging as his eyes burned into her back and right through her heart
