Protecting the Brocks

"We can see you, you know," Tam announces. You give him a look that says, "Why did you announce that?"

"We're well aware of that." Your blood boils at the sound of your mom's voice.

"What do you want, Mom?" you ask.

"We want you, Y/n. We want you to come back to where you belong," she responds.

"I am never going back to the Neverseen," you hiss.

"Why not? We only want your help."

"With what? Torturing me? Nearly killing me constantly for the sake of Keefe's Legacy and him being able to survive it? What is it you want? Really?"

"Come on, Y/n. You know what for."

"Then no. I'd rather burn in Hell."

"I can burn you in something similar to the human interpretation of Hell," Fintan snarls.

"Can you?" you ask. "Can you really?" His silence says it all.

"Come on, Y/n. I really don't want to deal with this right now," Tam says. His eyes are back to pitch black and you sigh. You lead him to the Brocks and go straight to your room with the excuse of exhaustion. You see a blare of light through your window and see Fintan with a ball of flames hovering over his palm. You jump out of the already open window and use levitation to get you down safely.

"Don't even think about it," Tam warns. You each summon balls of shadowflux, but you mix yours with fire to make it more potent. You can sense Fintan's fear.

"Burn it to the ground," Gisela orders. Fintan throws the fire at the house, but you snuff it before it even reaches. You and Tam fire your weapons at them as the Brocks come home.

"What the?" Layne asks.

"What are you doing?" Lesa asks.

"It's really complicated," Tam responds. Fintan and Gisela leap away.

"I'll call Terik," you say. You leave and hail Terik.

"Y/n! I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon!" he exclaims as he answers.

"We had a run in with the Neverseen and the Brocks came home from a school thing right as we were fighting," you explain the unexpected call.

"We'll send Washers," he says. "Bronte won't be happy, though. Did it set your progress back?"

"All the way. Now that the Neverseen know where we are, I don't know if it's safe for us to stay here. For us or the Brocks. I really hope we don't have to leave because they are honestly the best. Let us know if we have to go somewhere else. I can think of a few places," you say and click off. You return as the Washers arrive. They sedate the Brocks and Sam so that it's easier and they erase the memories of the fight. You guys put them in their beds and go to your room just to escape, really. Escape reality for a bit.

Tam's POV

GOD DAMMIT!! WHY DID THE NEVERSEEN HAVE TO COME ALONG AND RUIN THE PROGRESS WE HAD?!! UGH! I take a calming breath as Y/n massages my shoulders to release some tension.

"I can feel your anger," she acknowledges.

"The whole damn state can," I mutter. She comes in front of me.

"I know this is all really frustrating and infuriating, Tam. But trust me when I say it'll help to talk about it. I sound like a therapist right now so go with it because I don't want to be a therapist," she says. I sigh and explain everything going on in my head. The newfound stress and anger about the Neverseen knowing where we are, how they figured it out, if they have a hideout here, the stress I was already feeling from before we came here and just everything. She just listens and after I'm done, there's a knock on the door.

"Come in," Y/n calls. Lesa enters.

"Do you guys want some hot chocolate? I just made some and it always helps the boys when they're stressed about school or really anything," she offers.

"That'd be awesome. Thanks, Lesa," I accept, hoping it will help me as well. Y/n and I head downstairs and see Sam, Colby, Layne and Gage sitting at the dining table. We sit down after grabbing some hot chocolate and it actually tastes really good. It's not cinnacreme, but it's good. Sam and Colby ask more about Keefe and the pranks he's pulled, and we tell all that we know, twisting them so that they sound more human. After drinking hot chocolate and chatting with everyone, including some mini conversations with Gage, Y/n and I go up to our room.

"I liked that a lot. The Brocks are the family I've always wanted. They are honestly the best," Y/n says. I smile at her.

"I like it here. Maybe, in a couple weeks, I might be willing to go to school," I add. She smiles and it grows wider when she looks into my eyes.

"Your eyes are a midnight blue instead of pitch black. We're already gaining progress," she explains. I smile and we just talk. I really hope this gets resolved soon. I hate the stress.

Y/n's POV

~time skip~

It's been about a week since the Neverseen encounter and we decided to stay in Kansas. Tam's stress levels are down a lot. His eyes are a royal blue and I'm genuinely shocked that no one has said anything about it.

"Y/n," Tam says as we enter our room from going to the mall with the boys to help with their Vine.

"Yeah?" I ask.

"I think I want to go to school," he answers.

"Are you sure? I don't want to put any pressure on you," I say.

"I'm sure. We need to update Terik today and we can tell him then," he responds. I nod and get out my Imparter. I hail Terik and wait for him to answer.

"Y/n! Tam! How's it going?" he asks as he answers.

"It's going really well. Tam's stress levels are going down quite well, and the Brocks are amazing. We filmed for the boys for a social media platform called Vine here in the human world today and it was really fun. Also, we want to go to school. If that's alright," I explain.

"That's just fine. What school and we'll pay for it," he offers.

"Blue Valley High School in Sophomore year. That's the school and grade Sam and Colby are in, and we want to know at least someone," Tam responds.

"You'll be able to go tomorrow. Now go. Tell the boys the news," Terik says. I laugh and click off, going to the living room where Sam and Colby are.

"Good news, boys," I start.

"Oh?" Sam asks.

"We're going to school at Blue Valley High School in Sophomore year," Tam responds. Sam and Colby's faces light up with excitement and they hug us and each other. Now we just have to wait for tomorrow and see how well it goes.
