Asking Permission

Your POV

I wake up with Tam still holding me but not asleep.

"Morning," he says with a morning voice.

"Just woke up?" I ask.

"Yeah," he mutters.

"Come on. I have plans for today," I say, dragging him out of bed. He groans but doesn't fight. I get some breakfast ready, and we eat in silence. We both go to our rooms to get ready for a meeting with the Councilors. No. No, I have not told Tam. I just told him to dress formally. We exit at the same time, and he looks good. He fidgets with his cape.

"I hate the capes. That's one thing I didn't miss from being in Foxfire," he mutters.

"I think Lady Galvin is the only one who likes the capes. Now come on. I want to visit Fitz and Sophie first," I say. We go to the Leapmaster and leap to Foxfire. We enter the Healing Center.

"Still can't wake them up?" I ask as I enter and see both of them still asleep. They also have their stuffed animals now.

"Unfortunately, no. Every time they start to wake up, they start to thrash. I don't know why. It's killing them both every time. And every time it's more difficult to see their cells where the shadowflux affected them. It's really frustrating," Elwin answers.

"It's the echoes. Those will be there for a long time. Nothing we can do about those, in my knowledge," I explain.

"Echoes?" Elwin asks.

"Traces of the shadowflux remaining in their systems. Fortunately, it's not too harmful. Unfortunately, it's impossible to get out of their systems," I explain.

"And what's with the formal outfits?" he asks then.

"No idea. Y/N won't tell me," Tam answers.

"And I won't tell you either," I say, rolling my eyes.

"Well. If you have somewhere to be, you better go. Wouldn't want to keep you here," Elwin says.

"Thanks, Elwin. See you!" I call as I pull Tam to Foxfire's Leapmaster. We arrive at the Leapmaster.

"Where are we going?" Tam asks.

"ETERNALIA!" I call.

"Eternalia?" Tam asks. I nod and we leap to Eternalia.

Tam's POV

"Eternalia?" I ask. Y/N nods and we leap to Eternalia. She leads me to the Councilor's towers. I pull on her arm before we arrive.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"We are asking permission for that much needed vacation, and we are asking if we can go to the Forbidden Cities for it," she explains and knocks on one of the doors. Councilor Oralie opens it.

"Y/N! Tam! What a surprise! Come in!" she says, moving aside for us to enter.

"I know this is a formal meeting Y/n has planned, but I'm taking off the cape," I say as I, indeed, take off the cape. Oralie does the same.

"What is it you wanted to talk about, Ms. Sencen?" Oralie asks.

"Tam?" Y/n asks, giving me the floor. Anxiety creeps up on me.

"We figured out why my eyes are dark. It's a rare Shade thing that even fewer Shades have than the number of Shades able to control shadowflux. Apparently, my eyes match my mood. The worse my mood, or stress level, the darker my eyes. With the war and really just everything, my stress levels have been really high. Linh, Y/n, Tiergan, and Lady Zillah all agree that I need-" I get cut off by the door opening.
