The Neverseen

You wake up seeing Tam above you with a smirk. He's holding a pillow over you and, on instinct, you grab a pillow from under you and smack Tam with it.

"Hey!" he says, making you laugh.

"You were going to hit me!" you say, still laughing.

"Whatever," he grumbles. You laugh even harder, and Linh comes in to see what you're laughing at.

"What are you laughing at?" she asks groggily.

"Tam was going to wake me up by smacking me with a pillow but I woke up before he could and I smacked him instead," you explain. She laughs and Tam rolls his eyes. You all go to have breakfast.

"Foxfire is still out because of the prank you guys pulled," Mr. Forkle says.

"What do you mean? We had nothing to do with that," Linh says. 

"Sure," Mr. Forkle says skeptically.

"At least we can focus on other things! I am going to thank the person who did this if we ever figure out who did it," you say. 

"She's not wrong. we're all going to Havenfield to see if Sophie has any ideas to keep us busy," Tam adds. You all finish eating and get ready. Once done, you all go to Havenfield to meet up with everyone. You look at Calla's Panakes, which Tam told you about, and feel a sadness you can't explain.

"I would've liked to meet her," you say, not breaking your gaze from the Panakes.

"You would've gotten along well," Sophie says, making you jump. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you," she apologizes. 

"Don't apologize. I didn't realize you were there since I was too busy thinking about the stories Tam told me. She sacrificed herself for her people? That's really brave," you assure her. Sophie smiles sadly.

"Yeah. I miss her a lot. She really helped me and the others," she says, also looking at the tree. 

"Y/n? Tam? Linh?" Edaline's voice carries from the house, causing you all to look away from the tree towards the house.

"Yeah?" you call.

"I wasn't expecting you here! I'm glad you are here, though. I've heard that you and Linh are good with animals. Could you maybe help us with some verminions that are coming in today? they're a handful, even with three people. And there's apparently five of them!" she says, exasperated.

"Sounds like it," you say.

"We'll help!" Linh adds.

"Thank you so much," Edaline says, truly grateful for it. You just smile and go into the house. Grady sees you all.

"Hey," he says before turning back to his paperwork.

"Hi," you all say awkwardly. Tam goes up to Jolie's room to help with cleaning up a bit. You and Linh go to Sophie's room to get some more field-appropriate clothes on. You go out once ready with your hair in a low ponytail and Linh beaming with excitement. You laugh at Linh's grin and help with the verminions. They are a hassle like Edaline said and you're all covered in mud and you somehow lost your ponytail during it. Tam comes out then and sees you all. He stifles a laugh that is immediately shot down when you glare at him.

"You look like you had fun," he acknowledges, earning himself a playful glare from you. He nervously laughs.

"We'll go get changed," Edaline says. You go straight to Sophie's room, grabbing a simple dress in your favorite color. Once you're done, you put your hair up in a simple hairstyle and go to the kitchen. Edaline is making cinnacreme and mallowmelt, invading the house with the scent of it. Tam comes down, his hair ruffled from clearing out boxes and stuff. You can't help but admire him.

"Like what you're seeing?" he asks, snapping you out of your thoughts. You look away as you blush and he laughs lightly. You grab a mug of cinnacreme and a slice of mallowmelt. You catch him looking at you with a small smirk.

"Like what you're seeing?" you ask him, causing him to look away, hiding his face. You laugh and dig into your snack.

"Midterms are soon. Did you guys want to go to Atlantis to get presents for your friends?" Edaline asks. Everyone exchanges glances and then nods. Keefe comes in and instantly gets mallowmelt. You laugh and he looks at you with the slice almost in his mouth.

"What?" he asks.

"You didn't even acknowledge any of us and went straight for the snacks. It was funny, especially since your girlfriend is in the room," you explain.

"Hey?" he says then attacks the mallowmelt. You stifle a laugh and take a drink of your cinnacreme. Once you have all filled up on mallowmelt, you get ready to go to Atlantis. You've never been and you're really excited. You all leap there and you frown when you arrive at an ocean with no glistening city in sight.

"You use a whirlpool," Tam says to you, making you jump when you realize how close he is. He laughs and grabs your hand as he leads you to the edge, grabbing a bottle along the way. You read the label. Whirlpool In A Bottle. Interesting. Tam throws it into the ocean and the whirpool forms. He smirks then jumps into it, dragging you with him. You scream then are swallowed by the water. You land on a giant sponge and Tam laughs so hard, pulling you off the sponge to avoid getting hit by the others.

"That wasn't funny, Song," you scorn.

"It so was, Sencen," he responds. You roll your eyes and walk towards the shops. You drag him with you and start shopping. You found a set of hair accessories that you know Biana would love. You get a weird, techy thing for Dex that you don't really understand but assume he would like. You get presents for everyone else and Tam leads you through the streets. Suddenly, you're being dragged towards a dark alleyway. Your night vision kicks in and you see a mark on the sleeve of your kidnapper. You struggle hard and see Tam struggling, too.

"Stop struggling!" Gethen's familiar voice says. You struggle harder until you hear a grunt from Tam's direction. You look over and see that he was just kneed in the stomach.

"Keep struggling and we'll hurt him more," Umber says, a ball of shadowflux hovering over her hand. You focus and fire erupts around you, burning the Neverseen members. You hear a familiar laugh as the flames get extinguished against your control. Fintan was there, too. They really thought of everything. You see a ball of Everblaze over Tam's head and you instantly stop any escape attempts.

"Please," you choke out.

"Please what, Y/n?" your mom asks. You growl and the Everblaze lowers slightly.

"Don't hurt him. Do whatever you want to me. Just please don't hurt him," you beg.

"No!" Tam yells. "I don't care what you do to me. Don't hurt her."

"How sweet," Gisela coos. "They're looking oout for each other. They don't even care about themselves as long as the other is alright! It's disgusting."

"Shut up!" you snap. The Everblaze drops closer to Tam, causing him to cower closer to the floor and Fintan to laugh.

"Take them both," Gisela orders. "Bring them to Nightfall. They won't be found there." You and Tam exchange a glance as a cloth that smells sickly sweet lowers over your faces. The last thing you see before the darkness envelops you is Tam's eyes, drooping closed as the sedative brings him under, too.

Then darkness.
