Judge me, by Chris Brown
...
HARLEM, NEW YORK

" GOOD MORNING BOO, How was your flight?" Medjine greeted me softly on the phone, and I yawned.

" Mmm, it was good. As soon as I got to my hotel I knocked out five minutes later, even though I took a nap on the flight." I say groggily, rubbing the sleepiness from my eyes.

" Yeah, I know that feeling." She laughs, " But listen, I have some good news for you,"

I furrowed my brows, scratching the side of my bonnet as I plopped my hands on the white covers of my queen-sized bed. I look out the window, seeing the sun beginning to peak through the larger buildings of Harlem. " Just good news?"

" Well, more like really good news." Medjine giggles, shuffling around in the background of the call. " So do you remember when me, you, and djnam were talking about the guest lists and whatnot? and about how we were both concerned about getting the art pieces together?"

" Mhmm," I hummed, gnawing at my fingernails as I bit at them.

" We got everything together yesterday, so worrying about the art pieces and whatnot is off the table."

I sigh in relief, leaning back against the headboard." Good... that's good to hear."

" And," She added, " The guest list grew."

" What?" I say dumbfoundedly, even though I heard every syllable that fell from her lips. It was one of those things where you first wake up and cannot fully process anything anyone is saying until you've fully woken up.

Medjine was the type to call you at six in the morning and expect you to fully understand everything she says, which I don't know how or why she wakes up so early in a good mood.

"More people are coming to the art exhibit." She says again, but this time with more excitement in her voice. " Djnam just sent the link to the full list. Hold on, I'll share it with you."

I nodded, even though I wasn't fully understanding what she was saying. " Okay,"

Medjine goes silent, then my phone buzzes with urgency. I pull the phone away from my ear, place it on speaker, and then go to the Canva link that she shared with me. My eyes bulge out of their sockets as I stare down at the list.

I thought it would be just a small crowd of people. some famous, some curious to see what my work was really about. But I wasn't expecting this.
