"Oi Masky, what are we doing here?", Yami asked taking a swing of his cigarette.
"Julius briefed us both before we left", William says walking through the seemingly abandoned village, "Weren't you paying attention?"
"Nope, the guy spent 20 minutes ranting about magic before I tuned him out", Yami said stepping over a broken fence.
"There's been a few magic knights who have gone missing from different squads and some kids from the forsaken realm. One of the magic knights from the Crimson Lions managed to find their hideout and report the location. A couple of knights scouted the place out but Julius wanted us to give it another look", William answered.
"Didn't some noble's kid disappear a couple of days ago?", Yami said dropping the cigarette and putting it out.
"Yes, the Suite family's daughter disappeared recently", William said before spotting a man wearing full body covering black clothing in the distance. He signaled Yami to him and the two walked closer keeping out of sight. They waited till he left before heading into the house he came from.
They walked in and saw nothing suspicious but continued inside. The ground had blood but everything seemed normal.
"Oi, Masky over here", William turned to see Yami looking at a locked trapdoor with the carpet covering it pushed away. He walked over as Yami broke the lock and they descended the ladder underneath. They walked down and found an array of tunnels and doors. William conjured branches and broke the doors to which most of the doors led to abandoned rooms.
Many rooms were filled with empty cages with blood and tables with syringes and empty vials. They took some and put them into a small chest to take back to the capital for Marx to investigate. They continued through till they came across the last door reinforced with magic.
"What could be behind this?", William asked inspecting the door. Even without magic, the door had a dozen locks sealing the door shut.
"How the hell should I know? Let's just get this over with", Yami said unsheating this katana. He cut the locks and William worked on dispelling the seal. They opened the door as it creaked and inside the first thing they could see was a kid laying in a small pool of blood.
"I'll get the kid Masky, get ready to leave", Yami said grabbing the kid and breaking the chains on his ankle and throat. William rushed out of the door and house growing two brooms.
The next couple of days were hectic. The kid was close to death. If they arrived a few minutes later he would've died. Owen spent the first day working on healing his injuries and keeping him from bleeding out.
The second day they had changed his clothes from the tattered rags to a clean shirt and pants. While the servants dressed him, they found a sigil carved into his mid-chest.
The third day is when he woke up. Marx had entered the room to check on the boy and heard a groan from the bed before he left. The kid had a high fever causing short breath and he woke up. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay awake and fell back under shortly after.
