Since Eleanora and Loki's birthdays were so close to each other, they decided to celebrate them together, alternating years on whose birthday they actually held the party. This year, it was Eleanora's turn. While she would have been happy to spend the entire day in bed with her husband, Odin wouldn't hear of a quiet affair— he always went all out in commemorating the Star's day of honor. So, even though she would have to face a ballroom of people later— most of whom she didn't know— the fact that she spent the morning with Loki almost made up for it.
The god was usually the first to wake up as he preferred not to sleep most nights anyway. He roused from slumber slowly, not feeling the need to rush into the day as he usually did. Rather than getting up and dressing immediately as was his habit— for if he lingered amongst the sheets, Eleanora would certainly be able to convince him to never leave— he instead admired his wife's sleeping form.
Her head was resting against his bare chest, the rest of their bodies equally as naked thanks to a long love-making session the night before. She was curled on his left side, as she always was, with her ear pressed right above his heart. One of her hands was resting on the other side of his chest, her palm flat against his skin. His arm was wrapped around her waist to keep her close while they slept. Underneath the blankets, their legs were tangled together.
As Loki gazed at his wife, a soft smile spread across his lips. He couldn't help but marvel at her beauty, even in the peacefulness of sleep. Her blonde hair— longer now than when he'd first met her— was splayed across the pillow in a golden wave of silk. Her features were softened in the dim light that filtered through the curtains and her lips were slightly parted as she breathed rhythmically. As he gently brushed a strand of hair away from her face, he leaned down and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead, feeling a rush of warmth and affection flood through him.
Eleanora stirred slightly at the touch, her eyelashes fluttering as she slowly woke up. She blinked her eyes open, a sleepy smile tugging at her lips when she saw Loki looking down at her. "Happy birthday, darling."
"Happy birthday, my love," she replied, earning a surprised look in return that made her grin; she rarely used any terms of endearment as she quite enjoyed the sound of Loki's name, not to mention that she was shy about such things. When she did use them, it was rewarding to watch the pleased, stunned expression cross his face. After a moment, though, she sighed and curled up closer to her husband. "How I wish we didn't have the ball to attend later. I would much rather spend the day with you."
A soft smile graced the prince's lips as he shifted, propping himself up on one arm to gaze down at her. "As do I. But fear not, my dear wife. We have this morning together, and I have plans to whisk you away from the festivities later."
"Oh?" the blonde implored hopefully.
But it was clear that Loki would answer no more of her questions. To ward her off from interrogating him further, he leaned down to press a kiss to her lips. He kissed her deeply, moving his lips against hers almost languidly in a way that made her arch towards him as she sought out more. Loki pulled away just as she expected him to go further, leaving her breathing heavily as she felt a stab of disappointment. It didn't last long, however, as he lowered his head to let his lips brush against her ear, making her shiver as they touched sensitive skin. "Your first present, darling, is me."
