Dear diary

Every day is the same for me now. Wake up, Oat milk shaken espresso and turkey bacon bagel made at home. Black girl magic. Repeat.

This newfound "singleness" being added to it is...New.
I moved here to Texas from North Carolina and felt like I had it all. The townhouse, the man, the job, all down to the cute little kitty - my baby, Papa.
Papa was actually a present from my ex, Greg. Oh God, I was so in love with him. We met in college. He needed help with marketing, and I needed help in Macroeconomics.

Coffee breaks turned into date nights, date nights turned into "you should move in with me", then "Will you marry me?", which turned into me moving with him to Texas. That left me single in the end...Here we are :)

You spend years with someone, and you think you know them.
We were supposed to get married next month on our anniversary, nothing too fancy! I'm a modest girl, so I had everything planned: Courthouse proceeding then an intimate celebration at a nice Airbnb overlooking a private lake. My dress fit like a glove, not the OJ kind with everything popping out, but the kind that makes you look at a bride and go, "That dress was literally made for you".

I thought I was healed and moving forward from Greg, but every day closer to what should have been the happiest day of my life, I propel deeper into this functioning depression routine.

It feels like I'm grieving. I haven't felt this way since I got the call about Pop Pop and his accident.

-phone rings at 8:00 AM, interrupting Aleigha's journaling and thought-

"Incoming call from...Josephine" Siri notifies.

Aleigha sitting on the ottoman at the end of her queen size bed holding Papa near her right shoulder, reaches over to answer her phone "Morning Joey Doughy".

"Good morning boss lady!" Joey yells into the phone. Aleigha smiles placing Papa on the floor letting him stretch.

"We go through this every morning, so you know the drill, I'll see you at 10 - Oh! I'm stopping at Doughboys for breakfast text me what you want!"

I call Josephine, Joey Doughy because she eats doughnuts every day. It's our "thing", she gets a doughnut for breakfast, and I get a pet-friendly treat for Papa. Lately I've been obsessed over these little red velvet doughnuts. :(

"Okay I sent you a Zelle earlier for papa's treat, could you get a dozen of those red velvet cake pops and ask them for some of that- "

"Yeah yeah, ask for some extra cream cheese frosting on the side." Joey interrupts.
"Mira mi amour! Don't you think you've been hittin' those doughnut holes a little hard lately?
