-4 Months Later; June, Monday 7:30 AM-
Aleigha rolled over to an empty right side of the bed. Cold to the touch. "Meow" Papa, always hungry, was up making his daily batch of biscuits on the emerald green plush duvet.
Aleigha slid into her slippers and could feel an attitude coming on, so she prayed. Then she looked at her phone - no calls. No "good morning, have a good day" messages from her husband either. He'd thrown himself into a really big case that would set him further on the track of senior lead.
In the process of supporting him, she was starting to feel unwanted way too early in their marriage. She knew how dedicated to his career Mitchell was, competitive by nature and passionate by heart. To recenter, she decided to enjoy a day unbothered. She sent a voice message to Josephine:
"Hey Joey, I know it's early but can you take a message on my incoming calls and take over my 3:30 follow up with the Trent & Leung consultation? You have the presentation already, if you need any assistance for prep let me know".
Josephine had decided she was going back to school for supply chain management and business administration, so Aleigha issued more hands-on work that could count towards Joey's internship hours.
-1 PM-
"Heeeyyy....Mrs. Whintore!" Aleigha's hairstylist, Yahaira, greeted her as she walked through the door holding 2 drinks, an iced matcha latte with oat milk and Aleigha's personal favorite...Triple espresso, light water added, 5 sugar free pumps cinnamon vanilla, with coconut cream.
"So how's married life boo?! I been seeing you, him, and all of this hair on my timeline!"
"Oh, it's going great! Mitchell's amazing!", they'd made a pact that no matter what was going on, their marriage to anyone who asked was great, amazing - just peachy. It's not like they were in trouble, Aleigha just wanted a bit more attention. She was starting to feel like she spoke to soon when she told Mitchell his schedule didn't bother her and they'd make it work, something wasn't giving and lately it was Mitchell.
"He's working on a really big project right now, so he's locked into it, I'm just making sure when he comes home he's taken care of, ya know?".
"I know that's right! Shoot, one thing I know about you, is you understand how to keep yo man happy! Every time I see him, he be walking around bee-bopping and cheesing showing all them teeth!"
"Yeah we're truly happy. He's the love of my life!"
The sound of someone clearing their voice interrupts us, "Hi I'm here for my 1:30 PM with...Julissa?" the lady said looking down at her phone.
"Oh hey love, Julissa is actually in the back prepping some color let me grab her for you!" Yahaira set the comb down she was using to part my afro down onto a tray and walked away. "I'll be back boo." She tapped me on my shoulder.
"Aleigha?" The raspy voice called. I looked to the side of the mirror I was sat in front of and to my surprise, it was Raleigh.
