Highway M25, London
Present dayThe sun had disappeared from the sky and the moon was rising slowly.
Crowley was driving aimlessly around M25. He had an overwhelming urge to drive outside of London, but he knew that what he was looking for was not in any corner of the earthy plane. At least not anymore.
He reflected on his time with Muriel and Nina. He found it pathetic that he let himself believe that Aziraphale had left some message behind.
"You are so STUPID" he screamed to himself.
If he spent another thought on Aziraphale, his body would have caught on fire.
He calmed himself down for the sake of his Bentley. He wished driving his flaming Bentley on M25 to be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
Yet, he still had the urge to break something. Out of frustration, he took his sunglasses off and smashed them with one hand.
Afterward, he was able to catch a full breath.
As he collected himself, he reached out to the glove compartment to take out a new pair of glasses.
However, he noticed something quite strange. There was a foreign object in there.
He miracled the Bentley to autopilot and pulled out a book.
It was none other than Aziraphale's copy of Inferno, with a note taped on the cover.
"Sorry, I broke into your car (even though it was technically unlocked).
Thought you should have this. It is of no use to me"
-Muriel"That sneaky Angel," said Crowley.
He would have liked to be annoyed that she left it in his car, especially in a place he would not have seen the book before he left SoHo.
Yet, a sense of comfort passed through him. In the 3 months Aziraphale had been gone, he realized that he did not own any material potions of him.
He was holding only onto the idea of the Angel, which had caused his inner world to crumble down on him.
A physical copy of Azirphale's books acted as an anchor to hold the pain at bay.
He removed Muriel's note from the cover and opened the book to the introductory page. The paper slip that "permitted" access to Crowley to enter Aziraphale's shop until the end of time was inside.
Crowley knew that Aziraphale rewrote the note every couple of decades. He did not know where the original note was and he was surprised that he had not found it in the original copy of the book.
The note in front of him looked old. At least a few decades old. He had seen him rewrite the note in the 1960s after they returned from a trip to Wales.
He removed the slip from the book to take a close look at it. Yet, the corner of his eye caught something unbelievable hiding under the note.
"Wait what?" he asked himself. "No, no, no...how the hell is..." he said unable to finish his cursing session, which was quite out of character for him
Crowley closed the book and put it on the passenger seat. Then, he reclaimed control of his car again and proceeded to drive on the M25
He was quite unsettled and confused. Many scenarios were clashing with each other inside his head and was alarmingly uncertain of how to proceed.
He could not figure out whether the newly found information required action on his part or if his imagination was acting up on him again.
"What the hell," he said as he changed rapidly lanes to catch his exit.
He found himself on his way to M4 Highway.
He turned the radio on and Bohemian Rhapsody started playing.
There was a smirk on his face as soon as he passed a road sign.
"Wales: 170 Miles"
