~Leaving for Good~

Part 16

Jay was at his usual diner. Talking to the psychiatrist - Daniel Charles.

"So, It's been ages. Since we last met. What's going on?" Daniel started.

Jay looked at his coffee cup, and looked at Daniel.

"Well. I found my old buddy. Mouse. He's in Rehab. Took him there last night. Hopefully. He stays..." Jay hoped.

Daniel smiled, and drank his coffee.

"Well. I have to go. My shift starts soon. It was nice catching up. Whenever you need to talk. You have my card." Daniel explained.

Jay nodded, and said his goodbye to Daniel.

Once Daniel left. Mouse walked over to the booth.

Mouse sat down, and stole Jay's coffee.

"I thought you were in Rehab?" Jay asked.

Mouse poured three sugars in the coffee. And drank it.

"Three sugars? Rehab not giving you any coffee?" Jay smirked.

Mouse drank the warm coffee, and sighed.

"No. Their making us drink herbal tea. I'd rather drink water from a drain..." Mouse Joked.

Jay laughed softly, and handed Mouse his card.

"This is my card. You call me. Whenever..." Jay reassured.

Mouse took the card, and ripped it up.

"Stuff your card. I don't need any help. I'll be fine on my own." Mouse snapped.

Jay sighed, and Mouse pushed the coffee aside.

"You don't need to follow me..." Mouse whispered.

Mouse got up, and walked out of the diner.

Jay looked at the time. And noticed he was late for work.

"Hey. Can I have a takeout cup for this coffee?" Jay asked.

"Sure." Magda nodded.

Jay waited for the cup, and when he got it. He left the diner.

Later on in the day. Trudy walked upstairs.

"Jay. Patrol is downstairs. Mouse is trying to score." Trudy replied.

"Dammit!" Jay cursed.

Jay rushed downstairs, and walked outside.

"Look. Man. Just give me some coke..." Mouse asked.

Jay walked over, and lifted up his shirt. To show his badge.

"Hey! You. Get lost." Jay ordered.

The dealer nodded, and rushed off.

"Jay! I was getting somewhere! Why'd you do me like that?" Mouse groaned.

Jay pushed Mouse against the brick wall, and spoke.

"What was that about yesterday? "I wanna get clean?" Or. Was that some stepped on bullshit?" Jay snapped.

Mouse pulled himself out of Jay's grip, and spoke.

"Listen. This is how it's gonna go. Your gonna stay with me. Your not gonna do anything. Without me knowing. You hear me?" Jay asked.

Mouse sighed, and nodded.

"Good! Let's Go!" Jay instructed.

Jay and Mouse walked towards Jay's truck. And got into their seats.

After 15 Minutes. Jay and Mouse arrived at Jay's apartment. And walked inside.

"Okay. Your room is down the hall. On it's left. You have a shower in there. You go shower off your high. And have a sleep. I'm gonna go to the shop. And buy some dinner. I won't be long." Jay explained.

Mouse nodded, and walked into the bedroom.

Once. Jay knew Mouse was gonna be okay. He left the apartment.

Jay got into his truck, and drove to the grocery store.

Once. Jay left. Mouse grabbed some of Jay's clothes. And left the apartment.

Mouse walked to the front door, and left the apartment.

Soon. Jay arrived at his apartment. And called out for Mouse.

"Mouse! I couldn't get any chips. So, I got us takeout pizza!" Jay called.

The halls were quiet. And this made Jay worried.

"Mouse?" Jay called.

Jay walked through the apartment, and noticed the couch empty.

"Dammit!" Jay whispered.

Jay dialled Mouse, and waited for him to pickup.

Mouse was in the cold. Behind some garbage bags. And he heard his phone ring.

Jay Halstead - Ringing 

"What?" Mouse asked.

Jay closed his eyes, and spoke.

"Where are you? I bought pizza!" Jay replied.

Mouse sighed, and spoke.

"I couldn't do it anymore. I'm sorry. Jay." Mouse apologised.

Jay knew what Mouse was doing. He didn't like it.

"No. You stay with me. Mouse?" Jay called.

Mouse took the phone away from his ear. And pressed hang up.

The phone line ended. And Jay had tears in his eyes.

"Mouse...?" Jay's voice cracked.

Jay grabbed the pizza, and beer bottles. And walked into his room.

By nine o'clock. Jay was fast asleep in his bed.
