"What the fuck were you thinking back there, Gerard?" Dad's outburst filled his large, spacious office, his eyes blazing with intensity as he stared at me.

I had come to his office right from school, only for him to set me up with a sudden meeting with his board of directors, declaring that I am his next heir. No heads up, no information, nothing.

I took a seat comfortably on a large couch in his office and fixed my gaze on the ground.

I meant what I said in the meeting earlier, and there was nothing he could do about it. I had no desire to take on the part of an obedient son who gets to the position of CEO. I'd had enough of him and his lousy arrangements.

How could he think that I would welcome the role of CEO, his CEO? I was completely uninterested in it.

His chest pressed hard against his white shirt, and he instantly untied his blue tie and threw it on his desk.

"Tell me, is this not what you want? I've worked hard my entire life, and it took me a long time to obtain the life you currently have. And you simply wish to disregard all I've worked so hard for?"

"Disregard? You never spoke to me about this before, Father. How else do you expect me to react to this silly announcement?" I said, already bored by his reaction.

He had been fuming the moment I interrupted his announcement, declaring that I wouldn't become the CEO or hold any position in his company.

He would have strangled me right there in his conference room if he could, but I didn't give a flying fuck about it.

The only thing I care about is how Zera looked at me when I asked if she was okay.

The way she avoided me like I was plagued and looked so pale for no apparent reason made my chest hurt. And it had to be that blonde motherfucker who interrupted us and messed everything up.

"Gerard, I won't let you talk about my empire in this manner. You will respect and honor it," he snarled as he approached me. With a sigh, I got to my feet. I looked into his black eyes and we locked gazes.

"An empire? Father, this is not an empire; it is a lion's den.The same den that made you ignore your own flesh and blood for years by piling tasks on him every single day till he was almost labeled with depression when he was just a kid." I muttered, concluding with a light chuckle, and his nostrils widened in irritation.

"I did that for you!" he bellowed inches from my face.

"I never asked for it, Father. I'd admit it did help me in some twisted way, which is pretty rare. I have no interest in your company. I've got my own business, and it's doing just fine. I want it to stay that way," I concluded, striding past him, but his chuckle brought me to a halt.

"It's this pride, always. The belief that you're capable of doing it all by yourself, son. That isn't how life operates." In a whisper, "I'm making an effort to make your life easier."

"You'll only end up making it worse," I retorted, not bothering to glance back before making my way out of his office.

Two hours later, I was donned in a hoodie, positioned behind a tree outside Zera's house. I had no clue if her parents were present.

I didn't want to stir up more trouble than I already had.

I waited a few minutes before the door swung open, unveiling Zera in shorts and a T-shirt. My heart surged against my ribcage, but it quickly subsided when a young boy, not even up to her shoulder, emerged with her.

Zera's and the boy's faces were almost invisible due to the darkness, but my gaze kept lingering on her bare thigh and her long legs.

They glistened in the moonlight, firm and smooth, waiting to be caressed and grabbed...

I gritted my teeth and forced my gaze back to her entire body. I was already getting hard again.

They soon passed by, and after a while I followed them, keeping a safe distance.
I observed Zera laughing at something the boy said and quickly ruffling his hair. He must be her younger brother, the one that was in the hospital the other day.

She jumped slightly and burst into runs after him, their laughing and banter filling the air. A little smile appeared on my lips. She was glowing, but she hadn't realized it.

I ensured I trailed them all the way and halted when I saw them enter a mall. They soon emerged, and I made sure to maintain a safe distance until they entered the door to her house.

I wasn't sure if she would go to the club tonight. She rarely missed it. I contemplated texting or calling her but decided against it.

Zera Palmer is mine and no one else's.

She might throw a fit and attempt to distance herself from me, but I'd always find my way back to her. A means to possess and claim her. A means to fuck the life out of her.

I released a sigh, turned, and made my way back to where I had parked my car. I should get ready to head to the club for some drinks.

I hadn't walked far when I noticed the shadow of a person leaving, not far from where I was.

A person with recognizable blonde hair.
