My head felt like it was about to burst open, I could feel it. A faint groan escaped my lips as I shifted on my bed, flipping onto my stomach and clutching at my hair lightly.

I attempted to drift back into sleep, but it proved futile. It rained, I could sense it in the atmosphere surrounding my room.

I had no clue whether it was morning or not, as I stubbornly kept my eyes shut.

A voice suddenly popped into my head, “I’m sorry. Let’s talk it out…., I know I messed up. You’ve just made me realize that, and I’m willing to make it right….”

Images of someone whispering hovered in my mind. I couldn’t see their face or catch what they were saying. Then, someone lifted me up and also planted a kiss on my forehead. Who was it…

I want you gone. Out of my sight, out of my life….” my voice exploded.

My eyes snapped open, met by the glare of the bright room. It was already morning.

I jolted upright, another groan slipping from my lips.

Gerard. Last night. Assault with Dragon. I smacked him with a book and stormed off. I…

“Lashed out at Gerard…” I murmured, my hand flying to cover my mouth.
I wasn’t blackout drunk; I remember everything from last night.

I’d unleashed words at Gerard that should’ve stayed locked inside me for years. I insulted him. I pinned blame on him.

“No… Zera. What were you thinking? I didn’t mean any of that!” I muttered, grabbing my phone to check for any messages from Gerard.

But it was empty. There was nothing there.

“He can’t be mad. He doesn’t take things personally. He’s really headstrong, Zera. Yeah… Ugh…” I sighed, grabbing my hair.

“I said a lot to him,” I slumped onto my bed and grabbed my pillow, shaking it furiously.

A knock suddenly sounded on my bedroom door.

“Zera? Are you awake?” My mom’s voice echoed from the other side.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. How did I even get home last night? I left the club early last night, got in Gerard’s car…and what? How did I make it home? Please don’t tell me he…

I bolted upright and dashed to the door, swinging it open.

“Mum!” I chirped, mustering a smile. My gaze locked onto her blonde hair, now healthier than they’d been in years. My eyes trailed down to the cup she held, steam wafting from it.

“I brewed you some tea,” she whispered. “How are you feeling now? Any better?” She stepped into my room, concern etched across her face.

She set the cup of tea on a stool beside my bed and walked over to straighten my curtains.

“Better? What do you mean?” I chuckled nervously.

“Your friend mentioned last night that you were quite exhausted and in need of rest…” a whirlwind churned in my stomach.

Mom halted and faced me. “He said you had asked for a ride home but dozed off before arriving,” she concluded.

“My friend?” I croaked, disbelief lacing my tone.

“Yes. Your coworker, Gerard. He mentioned his name last night. He was the one who carried you upstairs, and he seemed like a very courteous young man,” a smile edged onto my mum’s lips.

No way! It’s strange seeing my mum smile while discussing Gerard.

“Mum…”

“But I felt guilty that he had to help you up. It was late. What’s his job at the club?” She inquired, her eyes fixed on me.
