[Martin]:
She once filled the kitchen with cinnamon in the morning
Brewing coffee richer than any Hollywood actor ever could be
Darker than the storm that the people swear is coming in
But all I see is an empty blue sky with a hope and a lovely shine
The coffee cups are white with a liquid that's beige inside
I can see that she's hopeful just by looking into her eyes
But I never knew how desperate she was until I saw her then
But it was revealed to me that a way to hide the lies is cinnamon
Now, we've got a long way to go before we let it go
She was drinking to just keep drinking
All of the Tennessee whiskey nights away
Letting my hand slip out from beneath her breath
Leaving me stranded on the island of many spotlights
And now we've got a long way to go before we move on
[Riley]:
I couldn't tell because the perfume she wore was new
And she said that she bought it; "It reminded me of you!"
The bottle was asymmetrical but yet who isn't uneven
But never one day did I ever imagine seeing someone leavin'
The rings we wore have now rusted a citrus orange around my finger
So many years lost, but I seem to not be able to remove the perfume linger
Never taking off the band because I'm an optimist who looks to the future
It might be the Sagittarius in me, but I never wanted her to leave me like a father
Now, we've got a long way to go before we let it go
She was drinking to just keep drinking
All of the Tennessee whiskey nights away
Letting my final breath slip out without an "I love you"
Never knew the paramedics can't say you died of a broken heart
And now I've got a long way to go before we move on
And time doesn't just stop for us anymore
It's time for us to own what we didn't before
And it might be a long road but I've got my bags
And I won't be stopping until it just feels right
[Martin]:
Time doesn't need to let us know when it's time to go
We just allow the signs to tell us how it shouldn't go
No more dark clouds around the topic of the September night
Never realized
That, I've got a long way to go before I let it go
She was drinking to just keep drinking ([Riley]: just drinking)
All of the Tennessee whiskey nights away ([Riley]: drinking the nights away)
And nobody told us that time will heal our wounds
Bullets pierced my skin and now I'm ready to walk again ([Riley]: Watch him rise)
[Riley]:
And now I don't need to beat myself up after you left
[Martin]:
It was a long road but I've learned to let it go
