It's late in the evening, Dan is sitting in his browsing position on the sofa, scrolling away on his laptop. He looks concentrated and in deep thought. Phil walks into the lounge holding a mug of tea in both hands. He stares down at Dan and half smiles with gratitude. He takes a sip of his tea and sits next to Dan.
"What's happening in the mind of Mister Dan Howell?" Phil asked with a small giggle.
Dan looked up from his laptop and chuckled quietly, closing the laptop and setting it aside.
"I dunno," he said, turning his full attention to Phil. "Just been thinking about tomorrow."
Phil tilts his head in puzzlement.
"What's happening tomorrow?" He asked curiously.
Dan looked at Phil then scruffily fixed his hair, trying to hide the oncoming blush on his face.
"Tomorrow, it will officially be ten years we've known each other," said Dan with his voice kind of low.
Phil's eyes lit up excitedly, and he put his mug down on the coffee table.
"Tomorrow's our friend-iversary!" Phil exclaimed happily. "What do you have planned?!"
Dan laughed and waved his index finger at Phil.
"Not allowed to tell," Dan teased.
Phil pouted and folded his arms over his chest. Dan chuckled and poked Phil's side which caused him to squeal.
"Hey! You know I'm ticklish!" Phil said grinning gleefully.
Dan smiled and tackled Phil onto his back. Phil banged his head against the arm of the sofa, but he was unfazed by the feeling and only laughed.
"You're so silly," said Dan scrunching his nose, and looking down at Phil with a playful smile.Phil returned the smile and wrapped his arms around Dan in a hug. It took Dan a few seconds to return the hug. He knew he still had feelings for Phil but he couldn't let it show. Things just couldn't be like that between them. So he took these small moments with Phil to heart as they very rarely happened.
"Dan, are you okay?"
Dan looked up from Phil's shoulder and leaned off of him. Dan's eyes were glossy and shimmered with tears.
"Dan, what's wrong?" Phil asked, sounding worried.
Dan quickly wiped his eyes and exhaled to slow down his increasing heart rate.
"I'm fine," he said, "I'm just tired."
Phil gave him an unsure look, but didn't want to question any further if Dan didn't want to talk about it.
"Well," Phil said finally, "I guess it's best we get some sleep. I want to wake up early for our friend-iversary tomorrow!"
Phil lightly punched Dan in the arm playfully. Dan smiled and gave a soft chuckle.
"Yeah, well, good night," said Dan before getting up from the sofa and walking to his bedroom.
"Good night, Dannyboy!" Phil said in a playful voice, before Dan closed his door.
Dannyboy? Usually nicknames from Phil wouldn't affect Dan so much, but it struck something in him. It felt like hope, and then pain. No. He already knew they couldn't be like that. It was just a silly nickname. It didn't mean anything, or at least, that's what Dan kept telling himself.
