3 years later.
Soft sunlight streamed in through the window, and songbirds began their beautiful melodies with a gentle refrain. Dan rolled over in his cream white duvet covers, and was greeted with a small bonk of his forehead against Phil's. He groaned softly, rubbing his forehead to try and soothe the pain. Phil fluttered his eyes open and smiled up at Dan.
"You should really stop doing that," he said with genuine care and only slight sarcasm. "You'll end up with a concussion if you're not careful."
Dan faced Phil and squinted his eyes with playful annoyance.
"Is that what they told you when you said you were clumsy?" Dan asked, cocking an eyebrow and smiling cheekily.
Phil frowned and poked Dan's dimple that he loved so much.
"I love you," Phil smiled sweetly.
Dan kissed the palm of Phil's hand that was still resting on his cheek.
"I love you too," Dan said, feeling a small tear falling from his eye and onto his chin.
They share a short kiss before Phil checks the time on his phone, and his eyes grow wide. He sat up and Dan followed.
"What?" Dan asked him, feeling a little worried.
Phil looked back at Dan with an excited smile.
"It's our anniversary today!" Phil exclaimed, tackling Dan and giggling excitedly.
Dan laughed with Phil on top of him.
"Fourteen years!" Dan exclaimed happily, looking at Phil with utter joy in his eyes.
Phil smiled, rolling off of Dan and laying next to him again. He held up his left hand to the ceiling, and Dan instinctively did the same. They stared at their hands moving closer together until their fingers intertwined, and they rolled over with Dan spooning Phil. They stared so long at their hands clasped together — at the fingers that wore their wedding rings. Then Phil turned onto his back, looking up at Dan.
"Happy Anniversary, Dan," Phil said softly, reaching out to touch Dan's cheek.
"Happy Anniversary, Phil," Dan replied, pressing a kiss onto Phil's lips.
When they pulled away, Dan touched his cheek where Phil's hand was and smiled softly.
"Is this real?" Dan whispered, his voice breaking only slightly from how happy he was.
Phil gave a sad smile before he kissed Dan again and pulled away.
"You're not dreaming," Phil whispered back. "Not this time."
Phil leaned in to press his forehead against Dan's and smiled sweetly.
"If you were, you would've woken up already."
