"We are in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for the second race weekend of the 2023 formula one season. We have our two first practices just around the corner. Though plenty of us are still thinking off what went down yesterday after the media penn. Did anyone else hear the argument between Lando and Natalia?"
I read the articles as I walked trough the paddock, trying to regain my confidence going into this weekend. I had tried to avoid thinking of the dramatic scene that played out yesterday, but once I entered my phone to see the articles surrounding the internet. My mind, once again drifted back to yesterday afternoon.
I walked across the paddock. I had just finished my interviews for today. I was done for the day and was now only on my way back to Mercedes to get my stuff before leaving. I walked past a man in red. I recognized him as someone other than my brother, informing me that it was Charles.
He stopped in front of me with a grin on his face as soon as he saw me. "Natalia, how are you?" He was wearing his regular red Ferrari shirt and a pair of grey baggy jeans.
I nodded to him. "I'm just fine, thank you. How are you?"
"I'm good, what are you doing for the rest of the day?" I shrugged thinking if I had plans. I didn't.
"Nothing planned yet, what's your suggestion?"
"Why don't you let me take you out tonight?" I wasn't completely shocked at the request. I wasn't oblivious to the fact that he had been flirting with me nonstop during the dinner in Bahrain. "Or will your brother disown me as friend if I do?" That made me laugh. He showed his dimpled smile to me as well.
"He might, but I guess he can't keep me from doing everything." Charles showed a satisfied smile as I said so.
"Sounds great. I'll text you the details later then?" I nodded to him and felt an excited feeling for tonight. I kept walking toward Mercedes.
"Oh I see..." I turned around at the familiar voice. I raised my brows for him to continue. "So that's why you're here then?" I felt my annoyance increase as I started to understand where he was getting.
"Excuse me?" Lando showed me a tethered grin which only aggravated me further.
"You're here to date the drivers. But couldn't you have just come with Carlos instead of taking up a seat at Mercedes?" His words shocked me to the point where I couldn't answer.
It took me a few seconds. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" He just stood there smirking, knowing he hit a nerve.
"Seems to me you might as well could have left that seat open for someone who deserves it," he shrugged and then turned around to walk away. That didn't stop me from answering him, though I had to raise my voice for him to hear me.
"How low is your self esteem? Is your dick really that small, Lando?" Without turning back around he answered me by yelling.
"If only you knew the size of him? You'd be scared to even mention it!" Then he turned into the McLaren hospitality and I couldn't see him anymore. I shook my head in disbelief. I felt the built up frustration in me and I tried to calm myself with thinking of what to wear tonight instead.
Charles and I never got to dinner last night. It wasn't that I didn't want to, and it definitely wasn't that he didn't want to, but Carlos wasn't too fond of the idea of me going on a date with his teammate and friend.
When I called Charles to talk to him about it, he didn't seem too crushed. He was disappointed of course, but as for now we were just friends, which felt good actually. I didn't really want to complicate my situation in formula one by dating a driver.
