We were finally in the city of Melbourne. I've always loved Australia. As a Spaniard, I couldn't do much more than adore the sun and the heat. And where better to enjoy it than Australia, except Spain maybe. I couldn't place anything higher than home.
"Did you really have to ignore him the whole flight?" I glanced over at Carlos who was walking next to me into the paddock. I rolled my eyes. He just had to bring him up to ruin my good mood.
"We don't get along. I thought it'd be better to not talk to him than to start a fight, in the plane," I shrugged and kept walking towards Mercedes. I saw how he shook his head next to me.
"I guess, but he did try to talk to you. And he told me he'd try to be civil with you?" Now I turned to look at him.
"And when did Mr. Perfect tell you this?"
"He said so at the dinner in Bahrain."
"You mean the dinner that was held before he told me I'm only here to date the rest of the grid? Oh I see, he's really succeeded at this being civil thing, Carlos." Carlos went quiet for a few seconds.
"Okay, I actually didn't know that, but just please try and talk to him. At least try to tolerate him, he's my best friend." I frowned at him. He didn't think to defend me?
"Aww, that's sweet. You protecting your douche of a friend. Good luck out there." I left him there without another word. His words pissed me off to say the least. He could have maybe been on my side after he heard what Lando said to me, but no. God forbid he'd ever go against his boyfriend.
"Nat, you're great in the first and second sector. Try and pick up the pace in the last part."
"Copy." I followed the instructions from my race engineer and tried my hardest to go faster. My motivation was simple and effective.
Beat Lando
Beat Carlos.
"That's p3, incredible drive Natalia!" I screamed out in joy as I heard Mayas voice telling me my placement in qualifying.
"Thank you so much!" I drove back to the grid and tried to see who was ahead of me. I prayed it wouldn't be a red or and orange car. The sight made me smile. In p1 and p1 stood two blue cars. Max and Daniel.
"Natalia Sainz. You are outstanding!" I laughed at David Coulthart who did the interview. He looked mesmerized by me and I couldn't do much more than to thank him.
"Thank you. I guess that went pretty good, huh?" He nodded with an impressed smile and chuckled.
"I just adore your way of indifference even after this sort of achievement. What is your motivation? Beating your brother?" I laughed and nodded. He probably said that as a joke.
"It is yeah. I guess my need to prove a point goes further than a little argument," I shrugged and he offered me a smile.
"You are absolutely unbelievable Natalia. It's great to see Mercedes back at the top." His words put yet another smile on my face and I walked off to cool down and go through the media pen.
Anastasia joined me before we went in to meet the thousand questions. "It might be true but please try to dial down the sibling competitiveness. People wanna see you two get along, maybe play fighting, but not for real." I sighed and nodded.
"I know, but it's hard when he pisses me off like we're twelve again." Ana laughed at me and we got settled in the media pen.
"Natalia, how are you doing?"
"Yeah, I'm great. Thanks. Tired of course, but that's worth it." The man nodded.
"You did great in qualifying, how's your rookie season feeling so far?" I thought of the few races we've been to so far.
